Just feed it what you think is appropiate as you go about. What I noticed when I first bought my retic is this, a rat that would take a ball python 4 days to digest, a retic of smaller size will digest it in 2 days. So I started my retic on small rats and then noticed it didnt even leave a bulge. The next time I went to the shop to buy him rats I got him medium rats. It left a bulge, but the next day the rat was barely visible. So then I got him a large rat and that is what he is feeding on right now. It leaves a bulge for about 2-3 days. Now, if you want to "control" the retics’ growth I would go with something a bit smaller than what it "can" take. For example when my retic was feeding on medium rats, he was in good weight, sheding, pooping, pissing a lot. but when I switched him to large rats, he seems to be growing every day. i will feed him a good sized food item until he hits maturity. Then I will go slower on food because from what I read their metabolism slows down as they do not need as much nutrients to grow since they have alrady attained a good size, that should be about 13’. I plan on slowing down because I preffer to have a normal sized male than a monster 18’-19’ feet male. |

it`s not like a car , where you always put in an exact amount of oil or water in it. your animal is not an exact science just like el3men2 said . it`s more trial and error our retic is real energetic when she`s hungry.lately after a jumbo rat she looks like she still wants more. we tried 2 rats . we were told by people on this forum that a rabbit might do her better , because they have more fat we`re going to move up to a baby rabbit this weekend i don`t think a book will help me with this decision.we just know when it`s time by knowing our snake just get to know your snake you dog , your cat , your kid , thay all let you know with their actions if they`re not getting enough food same with your snake. read your snake. and keep asking questions on this forum . alot of these guys breed retics and know from expeirience what to look for |
