ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED first off let me get this right . you have had this burm for over a yr and it is not even 4 ft ? you have only been feeding it mice this whole time? Why did you wait so long to switch it over?
If I am right in my assumption of your post. the first thing I would do is not even attempt to feed for at least 2 weeks. If she doesn’t eat wait another 2 weeks.do not use rat pups. at a yr old that snake should be eating G-pigs, rabbits anything much larger than a rat pup or mouse.
good luck and keep us posted

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED Bopping a snake on the head with it’s food is not gonna get you anything but a stressed out snake, and Grunt summed it up pretty well with what he had said about meal size.

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED Nobody is trying to be an about anything but large mice are way to small for a Burm that is over a year, She/he should be on large rats or bigger. Please take the advice give wait a bit and up size the meal.

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED people need to be educated on owning large constrictors before they can buy them, over a year old and its eating mice. sadly this guy inst the only guy out there wrongly feeding the giants. there was another fellow on another forum that had a 2 year old burm only eating one mice a week, that was just over 3 feet, sadly it happens most of the time form pet stores selling that have no business selling them in the first place and misleading people about their care.
from 1-5 feet you can feed appropriate sized rats, 6 plus feet switch to rabbits, at some point you can switch to pigs also if you like.
i hope you figure things out, smacking your snake in the head is bad advice and i wouldn’t trust the person who told you that anymore, grunt and alf were not being jerks to you, but they are frustrated that you haven’t done any research before you bought the burm, well at least im assuming you havent otherwise you wouldnt have a idea what they should be eating as they grow.
you cant expect people not to be upset when bad decision are made that can affect the animal in question
i hope you dont take this the wrong way and i hope it helps.

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED first off Horndog, no one is being an smiley . we have answered your question , but apparently you did not like the responces you got. even if your snake was taking rats there is no reason why it would switch to mice unles you fed it a mouse again or your feeding live and it got bit by a rat. my hatchling burm is eating 2 F/T rat pups a week and is already 3ft in length. so it does sound to us that the person you have been getting your info from needs a few lessons themself about burm care.
sorry to see you take offence to the answers you got but , do some searches on Alf and myself if you would like and see what people think of our oppinions and animals.
No chumps here and we are the ones that should take offence to your post for we did not call you any names nor did we chastise you for what you are doing just stating facts about what the snake should be eating.

dont give me about "not studing about animals" i have the corect sized enclosure, correct humidity, and correct heating. Instead of speed feeding my snake i gave it 1 meal a week. And about the whole concepts of "not studing" i have 5 books entitled to large constrictors (one recodmends bopping snakes on the head the reproductive husbandry of pythons and boas by richard a, ross, M.D., M.P.H. Gerald Matzec pp. 118 AKA "Reflex feeding"). And instead of going to the stereotypical " experienced herpeculturist" from kickin’ usa (the south) i’LL go to the truly experienced keepers. HOPE THIS WEB SITE GETS SPAMED TO DEATH, OR BETTER YET DESTROYED BY A VIRUS!! AND IF I FORGOT ANYONE THERES A BIG OL’ smiley YOU IN IT FOR YOU TO. OH AND P.S. YOU ALL LOST A MEMEBER!

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED Why would you ask questions and then insult the people that answer them and obviously know what they are talking about? I haven’t asked a lot of questions on here, but just from reading other people’s questions on here I have learned a lot from the people on these forums and I appreciate the advice they give. A mouse for a year old burm is rediculous.

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED you know what dude you are a complete idiot. people try to help here then you go off on your crazy tangents talking about virus and acting like you know it all
lets state the facts here.
#1. you have a unhealthy burm, who is way undersized.
#2. you have bad mouthed people who have healthy animals.
#3. you are rude.
you dont have books on crap. again if you did you wouldn’t be here asking questions with a burm thats over a year old and 3 feet. hopefully it doesnt die on you.
oh and you want to bad mouth me.

i have a healthy burm, you cant say the same, my burm is a year 3-4 months and 9 feet long.
she eats a 4lb rabbit every two weeks.
i tell you what you arrogant S.O.B. dont let the door hit you in your butt on the way out.

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED i went out bought the books did the research and everything else, non of the books mention how at one year old a burm should be x amount of feet. And dude you dont know me at all, if thats all you have to be proud of (an albino burm) weill let me pat you on the back now that im done. Burms for me learn a lesson here and dont jump to conclusons! Secondly i went up at arms for the simple reason i though i was getting jumped on, i already apologized and really i ahve learned that the people on these forms dont really know that much (oh and that last little bit is especially for you burms4me).

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED I see it alot on here the minute some does something wrong people degrade and put people down saying they are no good this and that.
That is why if I ever would need help one day I would not ask on here.
I have seen what has happened to horn dog happen to others and it is BS that people cant be nice and give advice instead of cutting people down all the time.
Horn Dog good luck with your snake and don’t let them get to ya
Take the advise from the people you know and trust and ignore the rest

ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED Damn I have not been around lately because of work, my animals and I mainly hang out at another forum, however, I have to agree that Horndog, needs to take grunts advice! My burms and retics at a year old are well above 3 feet. Once a burm gets on food, I do not have feeding problems and even feeding them a decent size meal once a week a burm can hit 8 - 10 feet with no problems on a weekly feeding, however, I like to feed growing burms every 5 days on appropriate sized rats until Rabbits then once a week! After 18 months then you can cut the feeding back but damn my pair of burms are just over 2 years old and my male is 10+ feet and weighs 25 lbs and my female is 14+ and over 50 lbs, both are eating pigs and rabbits once a week *3 - 4 lb pigs and 5 - 6 lb rabbits* don’t really need to go overboard and feed them too large of food items!
I don’t like to jump down people on how they are doing is wrong but feeding a yearling Burm should be on Rabbits or pigs *you can get as low as 1/2 lb if you are not sure what size to feed*, and trying to feed mice and rat pups is not something for even a 3 foot burm should have! That snake should be on medium rats at least! This is just my opinion though for the size! I would feed it every 4 - 5 days until you get it on Rabbits because the burm could be stunted because of its age and size! If you wanted a small burm, why not get the living chainsaw of a Dwarf Burm?
Charlie
