Can’t get her to eat a rabbit... I have had Stormy for almost a year now. The people I bought her from only gave her rats... well I finally got her to eat rabbits but these last few weeks she will only eat rats. I’ve tried both live and pre killed rabbits and even chickens and still she will not eat them. I even tries scenting them and laying a rat on them and she will not eat them she will only eat the rat. Any advise. Shes wiping out all my breeder rats... lol... Shes very active and will not show any interest in any thing other then rats.

Can’t get her to eat a rabbit...
Is there a specific reason that you offered a rat after having her feeding on rabbits? Also, what’s her feeding schedule like? Try not feeding her for a few weeks and see if she goes for when after not eating for a few weeks, they sure can drive ya crazy with their picky ways. How’s the other animals doing these days? Good to see you around again Crystal, don’t be a stranger.

Can’t get her to eat a rabbit... I normally offer Stormy food every other week. After she refused a rabbit for three weeks I gave in to her and gave her some rats. Ever one else is doing great. Here are some pictures of them....
Also I noticed yesterday that Stormy (female albino) started rubbing her tail all over Sunny (albino green male). Then today they had there tails curled around each other. Is it possible for them to be mateing this time of year. Sunny doesn’t seem to interested in her but she has been all over him... And yes they where both probed at the vets.

Fluffy after a bad shed... here she is eating stormy’s left overs... She ate both a chicken and a rabbit.

Can’t get her to eat a rabbit... Anything is possible, not sure if it’s likely for them to breed this time of year but that’s not to say it can’t happen. If she’s waving her tail around, exposing her cloaca and discharging a clear liquid, that’s her way of playin’ hard to get. If the male is wrapping around her, give him a few more days in there. At that time, take him out for a couple days. If you have a shed from another male throw it in with her and when re-introducing the male, the scent of another male should spark his interest a bit more and make him work a bit harder. You can attempt to keep cycling them, it won’t hurt them. Other signs of breeding that you amy notice is the male will go off feed, and may show a little aggresion when you pull him out while cycling. Things you may notice with the female will be her body starting to swell a little from follicle development, she will not be gravid yet and may still take food if offered. Keep cycling in the male until you see an ovulation, try and keep a good eye on her for the ovulation. A typical ovulation will last around 24 hours with the peak right aroud 12 hours, than you’ll want to keep the male seperate from the female. She should then shed 17-24 days after her ovulation, and there’s a good chance that if she’s absolutely refusing food that she’s gravid. Hope this helps, if you need any further help let me know and I’ll do what I can to help out.
