 Breeding my albino burm

ok well I’m kinda new to the breeding world of snakes. I just got this snake about 2 months ago shes a lil over 7 feet to me shes a lil on the thin side as the person i got her from wasnt feeding her as regularaly as she should have been. I will try to post a pic of her on here in a few minutes. I am wanting her to get use to eatting well again as she has I started with 1 jumbo rat at a time and now progressing to 2 rats soon as im sure she can handle 2 but wanted to take it slowly. My question is I was told by her previous owner I needed to wait until she was about 9 feet to breed her is that so?I’m seeing people breeding their snakes a lot smaller then her. Anyone help me here?

There are two things that you will have to take into consideration when attempting to breed your burmese python. Seeing that your female is around 7’ and that it’s a bit underweight makes me believe that it could be 2 years old already, so seems like you have that base covered. Now the next part will be up to the way you feed her over the months to come. My advice would be to feed her two good size meals 2x a week for the months of Jul., Aug., Sept., Oct., and Nov. If she weighs at least 30 lbs. you could start the cooling period in the beginning of Dec. and give it a shot. If yuo don’t have the proper weight on her, you stand the chance of you female laying infertile eggs or in the worst case she could end up eggbound which wouldn’t be fun. Hope this helps.

 Breeding my albino burm

well I just learned something last night i had assumed Lilith my snake was around 2 or 3 yrs olf for her length but I was wrong I was told she is around 6 yrs old and shes only 7ft. The guy I got her from kept her in a 20 gallon glass aquarium with nothing but newspaper n a water bowl.Needless to say I guess I’m bascially rehabilitating her. I feel bad for her now her new cage isnt all built yet but I had to put her back in that tank cause I discovered a cra load of mites on her.I’m glad this mesage board is around I found out how to take care of them but had to quarantine her till they were gone,I never had a snake get mites before a new one for me. ALf if you get this I have a question you said to feed her 2 good meals a week. Can she actually handle 4 rats a week? Thanks for your advice n help by the way.

omg that is so sad and sicking looking at her. guy should be shot lol, well good luck with the rehabilitation part been there done that.

thats ok i saw a guy on anther forum wondering if one mouse a week was enough for a year and a half old burm that was only 2 FEET. he feed it mice that whole time and the thing never grew, i was so angry some people have no business owning pets.

She could handle it, if I were you I wouldn’t attempt it unless she was in good health though. I only feed like this in preparation for breeding and wouldn’t do it otherwise, if you’re new to keeping a burm I’d strongly advise against it because feeding them like this puts them in a constant feeding mode and for someone new to keeping, it could be intimidating. The days you don’t feed, you should have some interaction with them. Obviously you don’t want to pull them out the day after they eat but you should try and get them out a couple times a week for awhile so you can get the feel for her and she can be familiar with you as well. Hope this helps.

 Breeding my albino burm

Thanks Alf, I had many other snakes about 2 years ago and my house caught on fire and I barley got my kids out so There was no rescuing my babies house went up way to fast. So I have finally gotten over my loss and started over but yes I am new to burms.I will see how well she does but will take it slow. I have already added a lil weight to her and rid her of mites she is out of the cage daily and is very well mannered never had any issues with her as of yet. I have done my research but it’s always nice to get feedback from other owners that have tried and tested differnt techniques. Thanks Heather
