 Borneo black blood python?

There are three different subspecies of python curtus.

There is P. c. breitensteini, which is the Borneo short tailed python
Then there’s P. c. brongersmai, which is the red blood, aka the Sumatran
and lastly there’s P. c. curtus which is the black blood python.

There’s also a lot of gray area as to what you can find as the three can be, and often are, crossed indisciminately. If you’re looking for a pure subspecies, make sure your breeder can tell you exactly which of the three subspecies it is. As in, pin them down: Make them say "I’m selling you a brongersmai."

As to which makes the better pet, I’m biased. I have a brongersmai, and am about to get another. So I favor them. Don’t get me wrong. I find the other two to be gorgeous.

Bloods are not beginner snakes, I’m assuming you’ve kept other species before, but if you’ve never kept the species before, even experienced keepers can be surpised. Bloods can be very demanding and unforgiving of husbandry mistakes.

The two people I would recommend for you to go through would be the barkers of VPI and Kara of NERD(I think that’s her someone correct me if I’m wrong).

I got my blood from them. Even though my blood is heathy and look good now. My blood, Hellboy was super thin. He look to be a few months old and was the size of my thumb in thinkness. Nothing a few adult mice couldn’t handle. I wasn’t impressed. However it was cheap and overal turned out to be a good buy. Probably won’t do it again, although I have nothing against anyone who does and gives a snake a home.

If you live in the detroit area , just go to some of the reptile shows . Like the Kalamazoo show where they have vets their to check the animal out for you . Then you can see what you are buying . good luck

No offend but I would like to clarify on the species. P. c. brongersmai is called blood python. They are only restricted to Malaysia and the north part of sumatra. P. c. curtus is called sumatran short-tailed and also black blood.
