Help please?!?! need ALOT of info!!!!!

">

I just got this lizard today not purposely my boyfriend brought it home with him and was told it was a yellow lined plated lizard but I dont know anything about lizard so is this really the kind of lizard I was told? they said he/she should get alot bigger. I fed him/her a few crickets and some banana. What size terrarium is recommended? Where should I put the basking light at on the side or top of the cage? How often should I feed it? If there is anything else I should know please tell me I have no experience with them. When I hold it it closes its eyes alot.

Hi CB7343,

if you look in this vid you can see at the beginning they close their eyes, basically their scared of you, back off & use the same methods as in the vid & you won’t go far wrong.

Yours looks like a yellow lined /throated plated lizard from what i can see, you need a basking spot about 120/130f surface temp measured with a temp gun, i keep the back ground ambient temps 80f at night there abouts & day time warm end ambient around 85/90.

Humidity around 55/60% with a good through air flow, to much humidity & low temps could cause you problems, so keep an eye on things. if you keep a deep sandy soil pesticide free mix this will give your captive something to dig into if the temps get to hot or dry. Make sure your cage bottom isn’t sat on a cold floor, this can affect you lizard feeding, sit the viv on blocks of wood.

Feeding wise young growing lizards feed everyday & dust with vit d twice a week & every so often with pure calcium, i feed insects every other day & fruit veg in between ( never seen them eat veg as yet!)

Hopefully that will get you started, anyone got anything else to add please do!:)

ps i have some good hunting & behaviour clips coming up, just in the process of making the film.

His droppings were runny today is that something bad or normal? I’ve seen that a lot of them love super worms but ours doesn’t want to even be near them.

Different foods can result in different colourations & consistency in stool samples, just keep an eye on them, as for superworms i always nip the head with my tweezers just to make sure they can’t do any damage inside ( good basking temps should avoid those problems though. :)
