 Cage Build Update Nov 2010

Just in process of building my new plated lizard habitat, i’ve often been asked how i built my other cages so i thought i’d record this one!

Brick & outer walls insulated with a high 2" spec insulation>

Plywood cut to size & secured with screws>

Shelf put in top corner to keep feeder insects warm>

Cupboard built in right hand side to keeper timers & stats in>

1 foot high double sided plyboard at front to hold sandy soil mix behind>

Front ply panel secured on right hand side ready for doors to be added>

Hole in back wall to pass plugs through & fitments, cover with 4"x2" of ply when finished & gaffer tape to seal from other side if need be>

That’s a really creative use of space Mark, I would think you shouldn’t have many problems holding proper temp.s / humidity there. Looks pretty well thought out. Are you putting a view window in the enclosure door?

WOW! Handy with the tools. Looks really nice. Are you going to put in a couple small fresh air vents down close to the substrate line?

Look’n good! You’ve got this project moving right along. With a little luck, once the new tenants settle in for a while they’ll get started on the breeding project. Nice job!

Nice work Mark,
Looks top notch. Have the temp.s/humidity % leveled out and consistent yet? Allowing the insects to utilize the dissipating heat is a really good idea. Can never have too many smoke alarms with this hobby. Will be exciting to see the tenants in there new home. I’v noticed that every time I put a captive in a new enclosure its like starting all over, the animal becomes cautious again and needs to acclimate all over again. Again, nice work.

 Cage Build Update Nov 2010

Hi Chris,

temps & humidity hold really well, humidity maintaining 60/70% ( i open doors regularly to keep humidity down to around 60%) , temps hold at 28c easily with little effort & nighttime 22c with 1x 100w ceramic.

I can actuarially touch the ceramic bulb holder, due it been off long enough to allow it to cool down & still maintaining 22c in the coolest corner, so yes i’m well pleased:)

I’ve grown on a couple of locust over the last 2/3 days to the wing stage, very healthy, they were still thriving regardless of the 60/70% humidity!! anyway they’ve gone now probably due to me putting in the new owners yesterday afternoon lol, this thread is pic heavy now, i’ll post some pics on another post.
