and how to sex plated lizards- males have yellowish-orange frills between their legs and body, females don’t- this is a male blacklined plated lizard.

just to put something rite females do have the orange frills but there mutch smaller than the males ive breed these for years and there very cute when they hatch

Males have a heart shaped head whereas females are more streamlined.

Females have a more pronounced side vent to allow for greater expansion when they are gravid.
Males tend to have a thicker and wider tail base.

Other than that it’s behaviour and just a guessing game.

i have a female sudan plated lizard and have taken her to the vet to assure that she is female and
she does’t have the orange -brown pores on here legs some the saying that females have them to is a lie unless they have a plated lizard that have both sexes

it is actually true that both sexes of plated lizards have the pores on their hind limbs. i have two separate breeding pairs of plated lizards and both have very obvious pores. and yes i am sure of the genders of all four of the lizards as with one pair (black-lined plated lizards) i witnessed the egg deposition, and with the other pair (south African plated lizards) i have had multiple fertile clutches and have even managed to hatch out a few of them. i can try to get some pictures of some of the lizards this weekend and post them for visual evidence. i cannot get pictures of the female black-lined tho as she recently underwent surgery and i don’t want to add any more stress than i have to. i will hopefully be able to get the pictures of the other three tho. hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.
