 Any advice?

Hello,
I am looking for a lizard to buy and i was thinking about getting a plated lizard off of kingsnake. com. Well,i got some questions about them so here we go!

1. What size cage can i keep it in?
2. How big do they get?
3. What kinda substrate can i use?

Alex aka bumb P.S.
If you can post some pictures of your cages and you lizards that will be really appractied!

 Any advice?

1.a 40 gallon minimum.larger is always better.
2. they can get up to 2 feet long including tail.
3.a good substrate i use is a mixture of reptibark, aspen snake bedding, ecoearth/bedabeast,playsand, and millet seed. make sure it is deep enough so the plated lizard can burrow in it.

here’s my cage. it’s kind of hard to see the substrate. the cage is also larger.

here’s his old cage before i knew they burrow, sometimes, depends on the species you get.

 Any advice?

1. make the substrate mix i was talking about and dampen half of the enclosure.

2.i got a broken turtle dock to make it.first make a ditch/hole on the far end-as you can kind of see.so the platform will hold and not fall.

3. put the broken turtle dock in there, making a cave.

4. put substrate on the top of the platform.

ornate’s do exist, but they are somewhat unusual in the pet trade, so there might be a lack of information on it, but they are beautiful lizards. i have a 60 gallon (but u can get away with smaller) for my black-lined, with a substrate of fine sand, but if u use sand, make sure it’s natural and not imitation aquarium gravel. basking area should linger around a hundred, give or take a few degrees. make sure you have several hiding places and things to climb on wouldn’t hurt either.

i found the link, it wasnt a true ornate, just a regular plated. true ornates are really hard to keep cause theyre smaller than the rest and dont take to glass well. they are beautes though, really bright colors
