Quick help ... Never had a plated lizard. But today, I’m getting one. I barely know what they look like. This is not a good beginning. Before you all get angry at me for doing something stupid like adopting a living thing I know nothing about, the situation kinda requires it. My girlfriend works at PetCo, they’ve had this poor guy for a while, it’s a six month old african/sudan plated lizard who has been there its whole life. They’ve decided to euthanise him/her cuz it’s not selling. We can’t just allow that to happen. She’s bringing it home tonight. We intend to try to find a more experienced, educated home, but in the meantime, can anyone direct me to some really good sites or info on the web about these guys so it doesn’t come into an inappropriate home?

Quick help ... By the way, we aren’t complete novices to reptiles ... We have 2 bearded dragon babies and two leopard geckos. So we’re at least familiar with the equipment and all, just not the specific lizard ...

Quick help ... Yeah I’ve noticed ... Any quick tips I may not find on my own? The lizard should arrive in about an hour. So nervous I feel like I’m gonna vomit!

Quick help ...
Just read your message. Good luck for one, and I had the same trouble’s with trying to find out about my sudan plated too. I hear they can last 30 years! with all the other things they eat Mine Just loves earthworms! Mine won’t eat his greans but loves applesauce and banana’s I also do organic. He eats them better! Pinky’s, crickets, meal worms. You know the drill. I give mine a bath in my tub. you can read below I posted about my expierence with swimming in the tub. I use playsand and the bark where he sleeps. he loves to climb. makes a mess with his water everyday, so there is a good deal of care for these guys. Mine is next to the computer, he comes and stairs at me I think he’s saying he wants up! like a kid or someting! He’s about 8 years old, I think I’m the 3rd person to own him. pretty much rescuded him from a little girl, that had him in dirt. And only crickets and no baths! Beware of the large sticky turds! I use a fish net for a scooper! he also attacks the net? don’t know what thats about. I’m just rambling now. Take care and HAVE FUN! Still waiting for some of the reptile magazines to do some research and give more info!

Quick help ... I’m not even competely 100% certain what KIND of plated she is, I’ve gotten three answers, and the more I look online, the more confused I get. You know how to tell? I’ve yet to try a bath, how often are they needed? She gave me quite a scare last night. Unfortunately, I think we scared each other. I tried to take a picture of her underside, and she started to run up my arm, which startled me, which I think startled her, which scared me (cuz she’s FAST and came with a rep of meanness), which made her freak out and try to get away. So I just let go of her, dropped her onto the bed. Naturally, I then ended up stalking her across the room. Though I must point out, she NEVER showed aggression, and it was all cuz I basically don’t know what I was doing. Poor lizard. I told her I’m trying to learn. I gave her some zucchini and pineapple last night, along with crickets and mealies. I haven’t seen her actually eat yet, but she is pooping, and she definately was interested in the pineapple. She didn’t -eat- it, but she kept licking it. We just have a ton of aspen bedding and two hides in her tank, should that be changed? My girlfriend keeps talking about corncob substrate I think? I’m definately curious about the net thing, lol, that’s funny. So far she’s a sweetie and I just wish I were more informed so I could be a better mom ... Even if technically she’s only supposed to be our "temporary foster child" (sometimes they stay right?) she still deserves a good temporary home, and I need to know about them to determine whether the person she goes to knows anything either.

Quick help ... post pics and we can identify the species.i usually bath mine once every 1 or 2 months, not too often but mine always lays in the big water bowl anyways.plated lizards do NOT bite, they only whip their tails and sometimes larger ones scratch but mine doesn’t.the least possible tank size for a plated to be healthy is a 40 gallon, preferably long.a good substrate i use is a mixture of reptibark, aspen, ecoearth or bedabeast, playsand, and millet seed. or you could use one or the other, just include a moist part of the substrate.they should be able to dig into and burrow in the mixture and you could put layers like one layer on top aspen, under it bedabeast, under that playsand, etc.. i have never seen corncob substrate. is it like corn seeds?
if i were you i would just keep it.
the food choices seem good.

Quick help ... Ya I agree with gottee guy. It’s all true! Mine never has bit just a whip of the tale SOME times. I can even hand feed him and still not a nip. Repti bark is what I use and the playsand is great cause it’s in my price range! about $4.00 or so for a 50 lb bag!
I have a very long tank, it’s 48 inches long and 12 1/2 inche wide and 18 inches Tall. I had just came across this wonderful tank by accident, He was in a smaller tank but this one is just great! change the sceenery everyonce in a while! here is my guy, I’m sure it’s a Sudan Plated. Almost looks like a Giant plated but not big enough. Good luck! These pics were 2 years ago. He sould be about...9 years old now!
