 Big Apple Herp. Raptarium Cages.

What does the MHD forum think of these cages? It’s either me buying this for my MHD or me building a wood cage with plexi glass windows and a aluminum mesh top. I was going to build it 4 ft. tall 3 ft. long and 1.5 ft deep.

I like and have used them for my MHD’s, others have also used and liked them on here in the past. I see them used a lot for chameleons too. There are a few issues that need to be taken into consideration with them, such as access and keeping the humidity up. Any mesh or screen cages used for them need to partially covered, I actually used the plastic aquarium background around most of three sides of the cage, and in the winter when it was very dry, I had to cover about half of the top. That kept warmth and humidity in quite well. I did use the soft trays since I use coconut bark as substrate.
The thing that prompted me to try these cages was the price, you can get a cool, large cage for very little money. You can use a heat lamp on them too so long as the bulb doesn’t touch the mesh. I had a UV bulb on it too no problems.
If you have the means and know how to build your own, that can be a great option b/c you can design it however you want. Those dimensions you mentioned would be good, maybe a little wider though?
