Hey, can you help answer me some questions please x

Hey everyone. :)
I just bought a mountain horned dragon, and am loving it, even if it is my first lizard and hisses at me :)
I was just wondering if anyone knows how long they shed for, and also when roughly they come into shedding?
shes just beggining too.
Also the best way to get them to love you? lol
Also does it hurt when they bite?

Can you write me back.
Thanks
Beccaboo

Hi. Mountain horned dragons are funny when they shed, they kinda shed in pieces as opposed to all of it at once, like first their head and face, then their feet and legs, then their body. It takes usually up to a week or so to do. Just make sure she stays really hydrated and the humidity is high like it should be. I often soak mine to help soften the skin up, just never try to peel it off, especially from their horns and spikes. Mine often have the skin stay stuck there, but it is super easy to pull those horns right off. I discovered that the hard way with my first MHD!
It just takes some of them time and lots of gentle handling to get them used to you. If she was wild caught and especially since she is new to you and her cage, just give her some time to de-stress and make sure she is eating regularly before you start trying to hold her too much! After that, if you work with her and handle her in a nice quiet, peaceful setting, she should come around. They are usually very calm and tolerate handling very well.
Truly it will hurt if they bite, especially if they are scared and hold on. They have pretty strong jaw pressure, if it happens just try to stay calm and not pull away and they will let go. The puffing up and hissing is a warning, and that’s all MOST of them will do to try to get you away. If you grab her and enclose her, as opposed to just letting her sit on your hand or arm or whatever, she will be more likely to bite, but these guys really don’t typically bite as their defense mechanism.
They stress pretty easily when they get to a new place, so just give her some time!

Some will never tame down, we have one female for 3 years now that is still just as mean as the day we got her.
As far as it hurting, you can ask my wife Bobbi.

This was a male Lepidogaster.
