Not true. You can not accurately sex a young argus.

Isn’t it true that monitors sometimes mistake a female for a male? I had read that in an outdated book at a thrift shop.

Here’s a male>

same male 3 years on nearly, each t&g is 3.5 wide x10, so snout to vent is about 35" plus tail over 6 foot of power, that’s what you might have to look forward to :)>

my hand spans that hole & he’s a lot thicker tail than my arm, cracking monitors argus :)

Mine refuses to take from the tongs, rather he/she bites my fingers or runs away. Do you have any substrate in the enclosure or all branches? They love to dig more than climb, but may do both. I hate not knowing the sex of my monitor, the large size of a male make me even more ecstatic about owning one.

He’s in the loft and has about 3/4" of soil to walk on, some areas over the supporting wall he has more, when I bought him I was 99% sure he was male, but as he got older that became a doubt, but as you can see he’s a big male now :)

He also had dig boxes at various times & logs to scratch insects out, ideally he’d be in a 20x20x7 high viv with about 3 foot of of soil to dig in, not many keepers have that though, unless your called 3240 and invested 35k into them ;)

Did you use the popping technique or squeeze his hemi peens out? When I picked mine I chose the smaller of the two left. I figured it would be female due to them being sexual dimorphic but I really could not tell for certain.
