Sorry Everyone Had a Bad Week

Place doesn’t suck, just had a bad work week and I am irritated about other things. So I was being sensitive and have been working hard and spending lots of money keeping this single monitor. I don’t regret it though, only been four months and under pressure to build a better home for Fiona. Thanks to Krusty, Dr. Pianka, Robert Sprackland, BIAWAK, and even 3420 I have been successful so far.

Her is Fiona

Soil and sand dirty up her water so fast, I change it twice a day.

Otto, your the one being defensive, all 3240 advice has been accurate, if you dont want to listen that’s fine but enough of this childish behavior, you want to leave the forum then do so. otherwise stick to advice giving/question asking that is relative to monitor keeping and stop being a baby when you dont hear what you want to hear. I am tired of looking at the thread to see you two bitching like school children. grow up already

Amanda

Otto,

You did ask for help. You started threads, on this forum, asking for help.

Your response to Yaksha shows your true colors. I’m not surprised, you’re trash. You promised to go away. Can you keep that promise?

You two are the problem, never asked I was sharing my monitor but does t matter now. Whats your problem anyway? Still can’t sort out what I ever did. Then your butt buddy jumps in and you know the rest.

What are you talking about? Every thread you started was a question. You weren’t sharing, you were asking basic/beginner questions. Now Yakasha and I are "butt buddies" because we both have experience that you don’t have? We don’t know one another but I respect her because she gives good advice and tries to help.

You need the type of help that you’re not going to find on a reptile forum.

this is the last time i am going to engage in this.
Otto, you gave advice to cover half a screen top enclosure with plexy glass and put holes in it.. this advice is wrong so of course we are going to say something, you said to use a humidifier, you dont need one with a proper set up so this advice is also wrong.... you said 8’’ of substrate, again this is wrong information, should be at least 2 feet, you said argus monitor would be cheaper in the end than a dwarf monitor and its not that black and white, again this is wrong, unless you are not feeding them or heating them properly.. you said that you could build an 10 foot enclosure for under 500.00, i would love to know how you plan on doing this as it would save me and a lot of people in the future a lot of money.. i dont see how it is possible.. but if it is then share your secrets, instead of getting defensive.
Also if you give bad advice to people i am going to speak up and correct it. as is 3240. And any other responsible good pet owner.

I have a mangrove monitor about two years old .I build it a new enclosure that is 4x2x3 LWH and i sealed ever seam in it. I can only keep the humidity about sixty percent and they like it seventy to ninety percent DO you think its because the substrate is not deep enough its about eight inches deep? This is my first monitor and i want to get everything write any help would be great thanks.

Is it OK that i cut in the top for dome lights? They are cut perfect just to fit the lights and the rest is closed off with installation over it.May be that’s why i cant keep the humidity up.

yah the lights sound fine, what are you using for substrate, should be about 50/50 sand soil, to hold in humidity and allow for borrowing. 8inches is low, generally it is recommended that you have 2ft of sand/soil to hold in humidity.. i used to add a bucket of water to the soil whenever the humidity started to drop as well to keep it up. how big is your water source?

Its 50 sand and 50 soil It dug a burrow and that’s where it stays alt of the time i know in the burrow the humidity is fine but when its out roaming around it runs between 50 60 or 70 depending on the day.I guess i will put some more sub strait in there and see what that does thanks.
