#2275295 Snowowl View Profile	Can u feed baby monitors rotted pinky mice my watter monitors over a month old im trying to get her to eat pinky mice so she can get calsium n the vitamins she needs,,,she doesnt want to eat meat so i put one that kinda smelled hoping shed eat it is a rotted mouse bad for her whe shes a little over a month do babys eat rotted thing in the wild ,,shes an asian water moniter

Live pinkie mice would trigger a feeding response better then a rotted mouse. I personally would not feed my monitor a rotten mouse.

Why do you refuse to listen to everyone trying to give you sound advice?!?! You keep asking questions, waiting for someone to agree with YOU. There is a PROBLEM if your baby water monitor refuses food. Period. They should be willing to eat any animal prey item you put in front of it. Dead or alive. Still waiting on the enclosure pictures and temp gun temps in it. I’m imagining an aquarium or a bird cage......

The lack of humidity and heat can make baby Water Monitors not eat. This species is jumpy as babies even though a good number of them can calm down as big adults. The things that make them not eat everything in sight are: lack of humidity, lack of heat, lack of hiding areas, playing with them and taking them out that makes them stressed out constantly. Screen tops don’t work out very good. Cover the screen with a board or some duct tape and foil or something that traps in wet hot air. 80 to 90 is marginally hot enough for Monitors. The basking should be 130°F with a temp gun (point and shoot device sold at www.tempgun.com) and about 110-115°F with a thermometer directly under the hot spot. I am certain you are too cool and probably too dry too with the open top on a guess. If you answer the questions honestly about the cage, we can help. Ignore the people cracking on you and worry about getting this lizard eating and healthy and growing or it won’t be around long.

Doesn’t trigger feeder any better than "fresh" rodents. The only waters ive had that didn’t eat (crickets roaches mice) were sick ones. Sometimes it takes 1-2 weeks for you to visually see them being sick.. If yours eats one type of food but not another, that’s fine. If they are under 15" they might refuse mice of any size and just stick to insects for a bit. If they aren’t eating anything, you got a problem and about 3 days before they are dead. There is 0 tolerance in baby waters for food/water withdrawal. They need it daily. Thing is they often won’t drink unless they eat so they will dehydrate even more. Mine always drink after eating, never seen them drink just for the sake of it. Most of these imported guys are sick and about to be dead anyway... just saying.
