 Mold/fungus? What is this?

Cut up a branch from my backyard and put it in my enclosure about a week ago. This is growing on the underside where there is very little light touching it. I am guessing it is some sort of mold or fungus, but does anyone know more specifically what it is and whether it’s dangerous, and if I should toss it or look into taking steps to prevent it from happening? Thanks!

Fair enough. What would you recommend I aim to keep the ambient at to combat this stuff?

The picture of your monitor looks like it’s smoking

That also looks like the same stuff that was growing on the log I put in my enclosure that isn’t up and heated quite yet. Krusty had said that it wasn’t harmful however I didn’t have a picture of exactly what it was.

80 cool end and 95 or more hot end (air temps). Basking temp gun reading 135F is solid. Can drop into 70’s at night. That works for virtually ALL Monitors I’ve kept.

Krusty, I have a bank of three halogen basking lights @ 132 and a second bank of 2 at.128, what can I use to further raise ambient? I have a double fixture currently running cfl for light, should I replace them with halogen or che or maybe a colored bulb? I could use maybe an extra 5-10 degrees ambient.

What size cage are you heating? With that many lights you should be able to heat one heck of a big cage. I got 2 indoor 65 watt floods in my 8x4x4 and it stays a little too warm.

Metallish - what are the temps you’re getting cool and hot side air? What does the cage look like? If the overall temps are low, you put a light/lights on the cool end too.....whatever it takes, but those temps above are pretty good ballparks for most Monitors to thrive in. If it’s going 65-85°F air temps, that is too cool and you’ll get the molds, slimes and fungus stuff growing in your medium kept moist.

Krusty, I made a post which you commented in detailing my enclosure. I’ll take some air temps tonight but I’ll likely be replacing the CFL with something like a CHE if the air temps are too low.
