Spacing Question I am looking into getting a pair of Salvators and breeding them. After talking to mxracer (Terry) we thought it would be better to house them together as to help prevent fighting while breeding I was wondering what size of enclosure to use. I understand that you normally go twice the length of the monitor so a 6-7 foot Salvator would need a 12-14 foot long cage and it would have to be 6-7 feet wide. But since I am housing them together I would need to double it correct? To make up enough space for both. so that means it would need to be roughly 25 feet long, 15 feet wide and it will probably be 10 feet high. But my question is would it be better to have a 25 x 15 x 10 or would it be a better use of space to go 20 x 20 x 10.

Spacing Question I think the 15x15x10 would be fine that you originally said could be used on the other site, but the bigger the better. If you have more room then you originally stated and are willing to use it and have the resources I would say go for it.

Spacing Question You don’t necessarily need a 25-30 foot cage for a pair. You’d be better to have about a 15-20’ long cage that can be partitioned in half if they need temporary separation ( like if she’s nesting eggs).

Spacing Question Yeah I was planning on building it to have a way of sectioning it in half for when the female is nesting eggs. even if i went 20 x 20 x 10 would leave them with a 10 x 10 x 10 for the time being until I can see she has laid eggs and can go and remove them.

Spacing Question If your cage is 20x20 and you cut it in half, youll have 2 20x10 cages.not 2 10x10 cages.

Spacing Question Just bare in mind that a partion for a 10ft deep cage is going to be large. It’s going to be difficult to simply get a bit of wood that size and put it in the middle to separate it off. I’m not 100% sure what the fix is, but I know you may have to be inventive.
Good luck!

Spacing Question I was gonna make 2 doors out of 2x4s and hinge them to each side of the enclosure so when it is time to section them off the doors will swing together and that way I can lock them as well so that they can’t get through them. The doors would have to be ground level as well to avoid digging underneath them, so I would have to attach the doors first, add the substrate then when it comes time to seperate them I would have to go in and move the dirt to each side. Same as when the seperation is up, i will have to move the dirt, unlock the doors, then put the soil back.
