 Materials for sav cage

Got enough money finally to pay for everything, got my dubia colony goin good, so now I gotta build his cage. I would like to use melamine but it’s to expensive so what else can I use and how thick should it be? I know 2x4’s for the frame I just needthe inside stuff.

I’m using 2x4 frame, 1/2 ply for walls, floor and ceiling, then Lining the tank with whats called FRP panels (fiberglass reinforced plastic) Its rather expensive, but well worth it ($60 for a 4x8 sheet I believe) Then thats all you really need, Amongst your dirt, furnishings and light fixtures.

There are a few different ways to go about it, but thats the route I took

I’m in the process of building mine using 2x4’s for framing with 1/2 inch ply all around. Built in a top half and a bottom half. Bottom half is lined with FRP which was $35 for a 4x8 sheet. Top half is coated in spar urethane. I think it’s going to look great when it’s done but if I were you I would line it all in FRP because this spar urethane doesn’t like to stick to the ply and it just would have been much easier/quicker to do it that way.

Not to hijack your thread but what Top Soil:Sand ratio do you all use? And you do use normal Top Soil correct? I just need to know the best way to go about the substrate since I’m almost to that point with my full size enclosure and it’s going to be a hassle so I want to get it right.
