He looks fit & can you tell him it’s rude not to chew his food before swallowing!!

Thanks Steve:) The steps are permanent, but he now climbs on them, expecting to be fed, even when I don’t have food, so ’yes’, he associates them with feeding time. I’m working on making an obstacle course for him, as I think he’ll do just about anything for food! (just kidding;)

Mark- I’ll tell him what you said, if you show me your monitors chewing their food first;)

Well they are "puppies" after all lol. I was tring to train mine to let me do health checks once a week and she learned to open her mouth while I was holding her, that alone deserves a treat ;)

Yeah, I have yet to see that particular quality in mine. I just got a six week old puppy, so I know what that’s like. One thing for sure, the puppy draws blood on a daily basis with his needle sharp teeth, while my monitors have never shown any desire to use me as a chew toy:) I like them for that!

btw- I haven’t heard of anyone giving their monitors weekly health checks, but if you feel it’s necessary and it doesn’t stress it out, more power to you.

....HA HA

Highly doubt that? Possibly opening her mouth to chomp your fingers off. Weekly health checks (opening it’s mouth?) is a little bizarre.

Great video BTW sue.

Get a measurement on him recently? Any confirmation on if your other is M/F?

To be honest, I haven’t bothered trying to measure him in ages. I’m happy with the way he’s acting and if he doesn’t grow much more, that’s fine by me, but he probalby will continue slowly.
No confirmation either way on Dozer, but Brutus still persues her/him now and again. They never fight though.

Brutus has to be over 5ft, no?
When Brutus pursues Dozer does he do the head twitch (move his head from left to right sticking his tongue out at a fast pace) to him/her? Always found it humorous observing them do that to each other. :)

Yes. he’s well over 5’. He hit 5’ several months ago.
I think I have videos of him doing the headtwitching thing when I first introduced Dozer to him.
It’s really interesting to see and even hear it going on, as it’s so mechanical and seems to be involuntary?? (probably have that wrong, but it just seems he goes into a trance)
I’ll try and dig out that vid. I heard from several experienced keepers, they will even do this to the same sex, almost like they can’t tell the sex of the other monitor, just like we can’t.

Hi SUsan, stopping in to say hello, Love the video. He sure is getting big. Ms. Rex measured at 5 foot last night, but she is nowhere near as bulky.
Im trying to work with her getting used to me more...its taking a long time, she sure is fiesty.

HeyCinders! long time no see!?? Congrats on Rex attaining 5’! That’s great. Brutus started bulking up about then, but slowed down lengthwise. Hope all’s well with your millions of critters?)
Any ’action’ with your sav pair?

no. Only had them together a few time for introductions. he liked her, she as always likes noone. Keeping them apart though as due to a pending divorce and all that comes with it Im having to downsize and Im looking to adopt her out. He may follow her, but fighting that now. I got rid of all but 1 snake, 2 turtles and my chuck, beardie and monitors. Keeping Rex of course.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but you’re wise to downsize as much as possible. Good luck with everything and keep us posted on Rex, when you can:)

She doesn’t open her mouth to bite when I have my gloves , she only seems to want to eat my bare hand:) I give all my reptiles/pets that can be held a quick look(mainly for underneath viewing) to make sure they are healthy, animals will hide health issues until it’s too late and vets in my area are hard to comeby for reptiles so appoitments are hard to get.

Me and my DH call them "puppies" as a joke because of this vidio:

Gives people the wrong idea about reptile keeping, personally I think she should be charged for child endangerment when she got her grandkids to place fed the "puppies" with thier mouths.

Yeah, I would almost consider it endangerment. These are wild animals, not some puppy to kiss on the shnozz.. definitely would consider it endangerment if it were a larger species such as salvadorii, salvator, varius, etc.
