Please Help, How do you clean it?

Okay, how do you guys clean the leaf litter before you put it in the tank? Just bake it or what? Thanks. :-)

Things that live outside. Bugs that may have pesticides in them, parasites, spiders, ladybugs, everything I don’t want in my house. That kinda stuff. :-)

More of ’everything you don’t want in your house’ finds its way in on its own, than will come in with leaf litter.

As for parasites, there are not any monitor specific parasites in Ohio. Any human parasites, you will already have picked up by collecting the leaves.

Ladybugs... now that’s scary!

Yeah, I hate lady bugs and spiders, the two things I have the most of in my yard. I just don’t want to put a foot of leaves in the tank when it has hundreds of lady bugs and spiders you know? Do you or anyone else bake them or something? :-)

Rake them up, put them in. place flat boards on top to flatten out.

No baking or other silliness necessary. If you don’t want hitch hikers then look for other substrates. In my opinion, the bacteria and fauna that accompanies the leaves help in the breakdown of the lizard’s waste and odor.

Okay, just was worried they might get sick from something in them, wasn’t sure if it was necessary to clean them first. Thanks. :-)
