 A simple question.

What is this, and where could I possibly get some? The stuff on the wall’s of the cage?

Mx PM me. Cork Tile, will break apart easy, there’s other opens like Cork Tile that will last longer. I’ll just have to look it up for you.

Cheers,

Not the easiest one too find in my area Mx, ..here in Mississauga. You are not familiar with cork board, like the stuff that covers a wine bottle; You amaze me, :-) No wonder you keep arguing about my "screen top", ..and I kept saying I have "Lexan" on top of it. :-)

Well anyways, that particular cork board is something a small arboreal lizard will find "very" easy to scale/climb on.

This pic here is the "easiest" one I can find here in the area, and it’s at Home Depot.

I would love to, but I think I would suck at it. Maybe, if I choose to get the lizard. Brandon has quite a few kimmie’s for sale and pilbara’s and I might get a kimmies after my birth day. Witch is still 2 month’s away but I want to plan ahead. I read more into the rock walls.

Kimmie is a good choice compared to a Pilbara interms of total enclosure viewing appreciation. It’s arboreal, and can be terrestrial. Just view a Pilbara as a small, very radiantly colored sand/terrestrial monitor.

I’ve seen the canadian site and he has both species available, readily if cash on hand. I’ve wanted another monitor like a Pilbara, ..but instead I bought another car :-) ..a G35 coupe :-)

Mr. Brandon’s site has tristis too but they are dark.

I actually got to meet Brandon at the CRBE and I must say he was a great guy to meet and talk to, I also met Ravi who was a great guy. Brandon will only have pilbara and kimberly available for quiet a while and pilbaras are another $600. I first asked about tristis, but wont have any for along time. And a kimmie I think would be a great display animal. Im thinking about building a 6x2x6 and would love to get a second one when I can afford it. Personally I would choose the pilbara and kings over the kimmie but can’t afford it right now.

Has anyone ever heard the phrase, "blind leading the blind"? Pils are a more finnicky and reclusive species in captivity, with Kims not far behind them vs most monitor species. I wouldn’t go picking either up just because you like how they look. There’s a lot more to them than Tristis and Acanthurus I can attest.

Here is some accurate information on Pilbara ROCK Monitors and where they live:

You are knit picking Krusty, just like your 87* F scenario..

It was just a quick description not a "biology book" description. I have seen pictures of Pilbaras in the wild and they are in that rocky formations. Aren’t they also called Pilbara "rock" monitor. Just because of the word sand/ terrestrial, you go knit picking right away.

I haven’t even bought a Pilbara yet, and you’re here right away barking on me.

Krusty, how can you find the time to go correct us in this trivial matter.

Blind leading the blind... nice one! You really have such an attitude. Did read this Mxracer?

 A simple question.

Thief - you have this arrogance that you know these animals and it’s just a matter of money. I can assure you that Kimberley Rock’s and Pilbara Rock’s are not species to just go and pick up because they’re like "Porsche" cars (as one guy in AUS said). They have very strong tendencies to use crags and hides, especially as younger animals. If you stick them in a flat barren "sandy" tank with a stone you are setting up a disaster with your $1500 lizard. So I would hope you look a little closer at how they SHOULD be housed if you decide to take on a Kim or Pil project. You insinuate they can be housed in this sandy dry fashion and to "think of them" as basically desert animals. This couldn’t be farther from the truth and may be a reason so many folks kill these things instead of breeding them - misinformation. You can call me a or whatever you’d like, but I know these animals pretty well and am giving you constructive criticism with links and photographs as you have this sort of naive arrogance about these animals that is really off-base if you’ve ever kept them or studied them in detail. I know you tend to gravitate towards expensive things, but I gravitate towards factual information.

Please excuse me MX if I’m Hi-jacking. :-)

Krusty, I think I have seen pictures of you Kim’s, I think it was you anyways they looked nice and healthy. Could you please post pic’s of your enclosure for them? I just thought it might help give MX some ideas as to how to replicate the rocky, watery conditions to help him better determine if he should get one, and he he could provide a proper habitat. Well... and, I would kinda like to see them too but that’s beside the point. :-)

I know I could provide a proper habitat. Im still hesitant though, due to the price of the lizard. And if I ever needed quick help I could ask Brandon. I don’t think I will be getting one any time soon. But we will see. I was thinking about storri’s or tristis, but Brandon wont have any for a long time.

Brandon VanA is a smart cookie with Monitors, Terry. I’d listen to him and read the details on his webpage. He’s very spot-on about care tips. There are cage pics here from February through July on my "main" pair of Kims, but I can post some photos of how I have the other groups set up as well. It’s mainly a ton of cork tubes, cork walls, caves and substrate of cocohusk/dirt with leaves over the top. Lots of hides!

Okay, I do understand..

..I did just blurted words which now I think doesn’t pertain to a Pilbara’s habitat (natural) which was sand, ..and if I’m relating how easy to house them on simple tanks, ..then that’s not what I was trying to encourage.

If it’s leading to misinformation, ..a scenario like a sand-only enclosures we see in the web; ..then you’re right Krusty. I understand when you’re breeding you want to provide a sanctuary like scenario and environment, not just for them but for their clutch.

I’m not in anyway encouraging anyone to house young adults to adult monitor in minimun sized enclosures...

By the way, it’s nice to read that you’ve given the Tristis a second thought Mx; arboreal is something nice to watch, really. And it’s up to you, there are many good ones..

...a pic again :-)here he is tonight. ..he’s barely on a 1:W - 2:L dimension tank now, but he’ll be departing soon.. also it’s spelled "nit picking".
