Yes, that’s about the biggest one I’ve seen. It looks on the heavy side, but going by the size of his limbs, it looks more like bulk than fat. Huge-mongus! Thanks for sharing.

Now tell everyone what a HUGE responsibility they are and how much ’house’ they need:)

I’d like to see him moving around. Any videos?

Yeah, definitely a huge responsibility. Pretty sure this blackthroat has a gigantic enclosure in a basement. No videos that I know of.

Do we know how much he weighs? He looks around 50lbs, going by how heavy Brutus feels when I try to move him. I don’t think Sobek is as big/heavy as this guy.

Snakeball said 7’11" and weighed in at 66lbs at the vet. Yeah, Sobek is huge (biggest female i’ve seen) but not as big/heavy as ’Black’. You can tell he’s having trouble holding him in the pictures ;)

Yea, I only mentioned Sobek because she ’was’ the largest albig I knew of, but this guy seems to have taken over the top spot. I have to admit though, Svar has done a great job with Sobek too, considering females don’t usually get as big as males.
I’d like to anyone else with as big a female albig. Altered or not:)

Sobek is a BT/WT/WT cross, and for some reason crosses get larger than normal, and that’s a female, imange how large a well taken care of male would be!

Those photos of Snakeballs albig are really old photos, I’ve seen them floating around for years now.
Let’s see some updated ones.

I would think, the fact Sobek was spayed has something to do with her size? I mean, she doesn’t have the stress of cycling and egg production, or resorbing ova to deal with.

Why would the fact she’s BT/WT cross, make a difference though? Hybrid vigor isn’t a factor, since the only difference is locale. Are there any other cases of albig crosses attaining such great size?

Different case scenario but when a Lion x Tiger = Ligra or Tiger x Lion = Ligra the resulting animals are huge , much much larger than either of there parents but are infertile , i am unsure if the crosses between the b/t x w/t x w/t would result in similar or if it’s as you say because she has been spayed , very interesting topic though sue :)

These photos were taken by his daughter just days before I posted them here. So you can rest assured these are updated photos of his albig.

No it’s not different photos. The last photo has been floating around for years now. I don’t recall seeing the top 3 photos, but they look like they were taken around the same time. Since everything in the background is exactly the same, same jeans, and same shirt.

And yes there are other crosses that have gotten huge just like sobek, because not every keeper posts online, doesn’t mean that they are not out there. I know 100’s of keepers, that don’t post online, again doesn’t mean some animals are out there.

Yes, I think that’s a good example of hybrid vigor, but was wondering how, or if it would apply to a pairing of the same species and if so, why? They wouldn’t be hybrid.

The Liger becomes so much larger because a female Lion contains a gene which cuts off the growth at a certain point. Since the offspring don’t have this gene they continue to grow. It’s actually been called pretty inhumane to breed Ligers as they continue to grow and eventually die because the bone structure cannot support their body. I can’t remember if its the female or male lion that contains the gene that cuts off growth but one of them does and since it is absent thats what causes the huge size differences. I don’t remember why all of the crosses are infertile though, I just remember seeing the special on Ligers and reading about them.

Not as big as snakeball’s BT. Just over a foot shorter. I also doubt that BT in the link was 117lbs as snakeball’s was 66 lbs. No way it is double the weight and a foot shorter going from the pictures.
