 Grasses?

I’m not done with new bt cage yet. I decided to go 8x4x6. What type or types of grasses could I plant? I know he will probably just dig them up, but I think it would be interesting to try in part of his enclosure. Someone had mentioned growing plants, I think it was BSM. Let me know how it turns out.

 Grasses?

Shay actually made me think about it when i saw his outside cages for his argus.

Only animals that i had grasses or other plants in with them has been russian tortoises, greek tortoises, box turtles, and uromastyxs so i knew they had food around if they got hungry but thats not the case this time. Its going to be a first with monitors but most likely it will be dug up. Im going to probably first take some grass from my yard then go with some grass that gets higher.
this site i used for my tortoises etc for plants

grass type 1
this one gets 12 in tall
grass type 2
this one looks good as it is Definitely invasive so it might hold up. get 12 to 18 in tall

That might work if it gets thick. What type of plants did you keep with your uro? I just picked up a new ornate last friday.

8x4x6 - Is that an intermediate cage?
That would be too small for an adults cage.

Search African grasses and shrubs/vegetation.

You have to be careful when using live plants/grasses, they will suck out all the moisture in your substrate and lower the humidity in your enclosure. So you have to monitor and keep on top of it.

Unless your backyard grass receives the same environmental factors that your chosen species enclosure requires, then it wont last.

Yes it is just a temp cage. When he outgrows I will use it for my ackies. I didn’t think about it lowering my humidity. I’ll keep that in mind.

Ah, good stuff.

I know a few people who have put ’backyard’ grasses in their enclosure’s and they dont last long, the african grasses fare much better and the deeper the substrate the easier it is to maintain. If you give it ago, let us know how it works out etc.

I had to do loads of searching before I found African grasses (in the UK). I had tried ’regular’ grass and it only lasted a couple of months and had to be watered almost daily!

Good luck
