Pissy little critters arent they? well i just got my savanah yesterday and i know ur not supposed to handle them for awhile but i had to clean his cage so i had to take him out, i had huge rubber gloves on =] . ha.
but he bit me once and i think it was just a taste bite i had to put him in a tupperware container... when i tried to get him out he was "jumping" and hissing and biting me so i threw a shirt over his eyes to get him,was this ok?
now my question is, i hafta feed him latr today and the substrate is dirt and should i try to put him in the tupperware thing again ot jus feed him in there(im gonna try shrimp btw if that changes anything)
thank you guys so much , i just got on this sire and i think its really great

Pissy little critters arent they? For exanthematicus stick with bugs. Crickets, Roaches, Earthworms, Kingmeal worms etc.
If you must feed rodents feed small rodents. As for shrimp make sure it’s head, and all not just the tails.
Oh and it’s fine to feed him in the cage moving him for feeding is stressful and unneeded.
Cheers,
Chad

Pissy little critters arent they? They will be able to digest the dirt or whatever they get in their mouths if the basking temps are hot enough.
Out in the wild there is noone to put them in containers to feed so no need to if everything is correct.

Pissy little critters arent they? What do you keep him in? temps, substrate, cage, etc.? Just curious sounds like you may need some pointers on that. As far as cleaning goes let him stay in there while you clean, as long as hea has a way of getting away from you while you do it this will help him get used to you. The more you handle him when he doesn’t want you to the more he will expect you to try, and he will be more defensive. It takes quite a bit of patience, but it is worth it when he loses his fear of you and becomes curious.

Pissy little critters arent they? ok well i know this is gonna sound really bad but i dont know the temps or humidty right now, and i just got him and hes in a 55g but im sketching a new tank now and im gonna do it right in there for him. so if anyone gets mad about not knowing the temp or humdidty, im sorry, i just cant afford it right now.
And i have him him on dirt from 1’ to 5 inches of dirt and he has a log to go under and a water bowl and he can get about 9 inches away from his heat light and thats where he spends most of his time.
and i was kinda worried about constipation but he pooed in his water bowl today so im happy now...is that normal for them to do it in a water bowl?

Pissy little critters arent they? If you can’t afford to know the temperature then how are you going to afford the $500-$1,000 cage? And the feeding bill?

little critters aren’t they? my sav always uses his water bowl to deficate in. research this site and others to improve your husbandry, it’s very simple once you get the basics. Best of luck to you and the Lil guy.

little critters aren’t they? Its hard sometimes not to be rude when someone gets in way over thier head, trying to "save" and animal they niether know anything about nor have the monetary capabilities to care for. We try to be helpful, but you don’t seem to have the capabilities to save him. look through the threads pertaining to savs and monitors in general, you NEED a temp gun and if you have dirt that is dry on top and moist underneath, with plenty of snug hides a humidity gauge isn’t immediatly essential, but the temp gun is, he needs a basking spot temp around 120. Spot temp, which is only known if you have a temp gun, a covered cage if you are gonna keep him in an aquarium. a screen top will just dehydrate the cage and monitor. Look around on here you will find all youi need to know.

little critters aren’t they? I live right in Mass, if you want to give him up I will gladly take him and make sure he is well taken care of. If you are up to it PM me and I will help you find how to ship him. If you truly want one that will be better suited to you give it some time and build a proper enclosure and research your a$$ off to find the right conditions for them and get a baby, or a better decision would be an ackie, cheaper to house and feed, doesn’t get as big. More expensive but better suited to the begginer monitor keeper. I hope you don’t take offense to this, but I am just trying to help you out.

little critters aren’t they? Rescue is a tricky subject in my opinion. Most people see an animal in to put in nicely less than good condition and there brains shuts off. They just want to grab the animal and run. When in reality the corner stone of rescue should be to know your limits!! You are not rescueing an animal if you can’t improve it’s life. That means having the money, the time, and the ability to get the animal what it needs to be healthy and in the correct surroundings. Taking an animal from a bad home that is well meaning but ill prepared to care for it dose no good for the animal.

little critters aren’t they? Seeing as you said you got him free selling him for any amount would be "making" money. How about you take up the offer of the other poster? Or at the very least find a qualified reptile rescue to take him/her in.

little critters aren’t they? They arent really super hard to care for. I got mine with a foot of dirt sand mix thats moist about 2 inches down until the bottom. You dont really need to worry too much about humidity as long as you have a place for it to go to get some or it will dig to get it. Mine likes going under the water bowl for humidity. My basking spot goes from 109-138 degrees in different areas so it doesnt have to be too hot or cold it gets to pick. If you have everything correct and have a temp gun they are actually easy to care for except the price
