If that brick is not supported by other bricks or by the bottom of the enclosure, it will soon lead to the death of your Savannah. If it is sitting on top of the substrate, you are just borrowing time right now. If it is secure, keep up the good work!

What do you mean by loose? I keep my juvenile & adult leos on eco earth mixed w/ sand. I keep it about an inch to 3 inches thick

Most all of the monitors posted on this post look good, good job everyone. Mines is looking a bit rough, I let the humidity drop for a little bit cause I did not keep up with it, and he had a very bad shed. So I have uped the humidity now, and I am trying to make him look pretty again. I feel so guilty, but he should be doing better now. Anyone ever had this happen to there lizard?

Wow these are some random pics lol. And yes i have actually removed my brick because even after i made it where it wouldnt fall my sav kept going under the supports. Im going to have to make one out of scrap wood and bury it. Ill use the brick as a shelf when i make my 8 foot cage in the next month. I may make a bigger cage and try to get a breeding pair sometime later

I’m having the same issue. I suspect she hasn’t shed in months due to humidity, and dehydration. She looked brown and covered in red dirt that was almost embedded in her skin when I got her. She is shedding now, slowly but she’s getting there. She’s quite beautiful underneath all that. I came across some stuff a while ago when I was in the pet store call shed ease. Has anyone ever used this on a monitor? And if so, does it work, and should I use it? I

Just bump up your humidity. Here he his when his skin looked the worst.



Now he looks a 100% better, all I did was raise the humidity. As for that shed ease, I doubt it works.

She looked way worse than that. You couldn’t even see her spots through the layers of skin. Since she is still in her temporary cage I have most of the top covered and have been misting her with this reptile mist that has vitamins vitamins. It is supposed to help with shedding. Seems like it’s working. Humidity is at about 70 should it be higher?

Roger if you meant is the man child tame the answer would have to be no. The more I learn about monitors the more I am convinced that they and men have a LOT in common . Neither can every truly be tamed or trained and both do best when kept at the right temps with full bellies!! Then at least they are manageable! The difference is where a warm well fed monitor will be more likely to bite a warm well fed man is less likely to snap. Well that and men are quite agreeable to a bit of handling now and again! ha ha!
