Lighting Question please read This is going to sound like a stupid girl question. But everywhere I read it says to use the hallogen flood lights. What kind of fixture am I supposed to plug these into? Would a regular heat lamp fixture work?

Lighting Question please read
Ok well I plugged it into there and she seems not to like it very much. Like it’s too bright or something. could this be the case. I believe it’s only 50 watts.

Lighting Question please read First things first. The temperatures you are looking for are surface temperatures, not air temperatures. The only way of accurately measuring surface temperatures are with the use of an infra-red tempgun. I assume you’ve read the care sheet that was linked on your last post and know that you need to provide a range of temperatures. They should range from 75-130 or higher. Again these are surface temps. The light should be spread out to cover a surface area about the same length of the monitor snout to vent. For a monitor over two feet, this could require two lights. The bulbs should be low wattage. Most use halogen floods. Be careful not to confuse floods with spot lights. Spots shine a tighter, more focused beam and can put your monitor at higher risk of burning. I use 45 watt outdoor halogen floods over logs or bark slabs for basking areas.

Lighting Question please read I am in need of a temp gun so until then I do not know the surface temps. Please note that I did not plan on getting a monitor though I had been thinking about it and researching for a while. I had seen the posts for her on craigslist for two weeks and when I saw her even though she was much bigger (length wise) and much skinnier than we thought I could not leave her there. I know I need a range of temperatures which is why I was asking about the flood lamps because the normal heat lamps weren’t cutting it. There are two lamps one is a nightglo heat lamp and the other the flood lamp. I have the nightglo on her because I didn’t want to blind her with light but give her enough heat to help her digest her food. The flood lamp is a 45- 50 watt halogen and is not the kind with the hexagon on the front. The lights are focused at one end of her enclosure which is on top of her hide which is a snug half log that she lays on top of. Thanks for all the input guys I really appreciate it.
