 Sealant? i know...not another one

hi in know there are loads of of threads of this but i didnt want it to come across asif i was hi jacking the other threads.
anyways i know how to build the structure thanks to shays amazing thread "how to cages" but i just want to know that if i sealed the corners and edges with aquarium sealant and used some sort of varnish on the bottom, sides and top or could i use a alternative? btw we dnt have FRP out here in the uk!! :O so could i use a alternative to this?

Sheet flooring works ok as long as no edges are exposed for claws to get a hold of.

thanks guys, we do have vinyl but its so thin that im not sure it would be that good:(
and rodger, by sheet flooring do you mean like tiles on floors and lino and stuff?
and if i did use sheet flooring i would use sealant around the edges and corners

Ya, sheet linoleum, not the individual tiles. You need a solid barrier between the moisture and the wood. It’s the same thing Betarev is talking about. He must have been posting at the same time as me.

thanks rodeger...and another thing, when i drill it into the mdf, do i drill it front ways into mdf (so that the bottom is showing) or backways (so that the front is showing) ?

You can lap and drill the edges either way. If you plan on using MDF, you had better be sure to seal it very well. If moisture gets to it it will deteriorate VERY quickly. Much faster than plywood or OSB (oriented strand board). I think the stuff on the link is what we are talking about. Use polyurethane caulk to seal the edges. Also put the linoleum on the pieces before you put them together. This will help to give you a better seal.

No Bover, that is glue. Look for polyurethane, exterior caulk.

The stuff you need to look for comes in a tube like the first link you put up, only it will say polyurethane caulk. There are a few brand names here in the US, not sure about the UK.
