 Captive Bred Water Monitors

Has anyone bought any of the "high yellow" cb water monitors from Reptile guru? if so, can anyone post pics of them? I’ve seen some really nice ones they have there that arent for sale and I just want to know if the "high yellows" will look like those.

There are two people here who have CBB waters from ReptileGuru. They should post pics.

I really hope they post pictures. I’m planning on buying a water monitor, but if I do, I want it to be captive bred (I dont care if it costs more, its worth it to me). And I really like the high yellows they have there. They are the most beautiful monitors I have ever seen. Also, if I buy one, it will be my first cb monitor. The other ones I’ve had have all grown big and healthy but they were all wc. I’ve had albigs, savs, niles and ackies over the years. Please post pics... Thanks.

I have a CBB from "reptile guru"!. The yellow on this animal I think is great. This animal does have siblings that are really yellow w/ big yellow bands on them.

I still have the ackies but the savannahs I gave to my sister and I ended up selling the albigs and my nile monitor to my friend a few years back when I got laid off from work. They are all still alive though and I see the savannahs everytime I go to my sisters house. And Crocdoc, I really like your videos on youtube. I subscribed to you, but you should make more videos, man! That would be cool.

Thanks! I have a stack of video to edit, but never enough time. The video material I have waiting to edit is a truckload of mating behaviour from my lace monitors, more footage of wild lace monitors and footage of wild Komodo dragons from a recent trip to Indonesia. The next time I have spare time (may be a couple of months), the Komodo trip is first on my list to edit.

DRZRider, how much did you pay for yours? The ones I’ve seen there can go up to $600. If you’ve been there lately though, you’ve seen that they have some REALLY nice ones but sadly those arent for sale... You wont see any like those anywhere else.

The waters you are looking I think are their " high yellows". If you were in California you would probably catch them at the shows. This year they werent at the san jose show but the year before they were here w/ them avialable for about 400 to 500 bucks. Reeally nice yellow coloration w/ some orange on them even. Last time I talked to Jim, he said they would have some CBB soon in a couple months if they hatched out successfully.

Ed... your picture of when you recieved you monitor reminds me of when I got mine a few months ago.

Jody that posts here occasionally has some older water monitors crosses from Reptileguru.com. His are from a different male and look nothing like mine. His look similar to the female that reptileguru has. (from pictures I have seen)

I live close enough to Reptile Guru that I go to their shop. I don’t have one, but I do plan on buying two of them as soon as I have the means to support big arse lizards. They are incredibly gorgeous lizards. They took out their super yellow hold back and allowed me to handle it. Very psychotic. They also let me interact with a big 6 foot + male they had, and he was super mellow. Came right up, tongue flikcked me a few times, then allowed me to do virtually anything I wanted to him.

Anyways, I’ve seen these high yellows in person many times and they’re gorgeous animals. Definitely worth the extra money!

Personaly I wouldnt wast my money on a 400-600 dollar monitor just cuz of a high yellow, being as though when they get older it dulls out,but aparently they dont tell you guys that part,WC babis are really no different cuz the ppl in Asia and sumatra incubate the eggs they take and send them off which is still the same I would understand if it were juveniles which get scared up from the wild but babies cost like 75-125 at the shows. They pick out there best 3 out of like 20+ then you guys fall for the OAKY DOE

read what you just said over to yourself. There no different, i think your a little confused there isnt really farms that raise and breed monitors in Africa or Asia (lets even say theres 1 out of 100s). They just collect wild caught gravid females and wait for them to lay then they just throw the female outside or kill it or just find babis outside. Then they incubate the eggs and they hatch and sell them. thats is called ch/cb (captive hatched/ born) not cbb (captive born and bred) like what this place is doing, theres a big difference. They also seem to be a lot brighter then other adult waters so theres another difference.
Plus as some know that soon their will be no more importations of monitors and other reptiles/animals from Asia anymore within a few months. what how all the indo species go up

Crashartskillz You are the type of person that I do not get. Wild caught are not the same. I will gladly spend 600 dollars for a CBB water monitor. A CBB never knew the wild, but a WC did, and when you take something out the wild it usually dies cause it is not use to cages. It is use to wide open area.

You buy a CBB monitor to me that means one baby monitor form the wild stays in the wild. CBB all the way. Have you ever seen a high yellow CBB water monitor adult? I can tell you they are a lot beautiful than the wild caught ones.

Amen to that. CBB all the way. The ones they have there dont look like any other water monitors I’ve ever seen. They are WAYYYY more better looking.

Yes, the Cbb waters are the way to go. YOur biggest issue should really be the animals filled w/ parasites as wc or ch/ "farmed". Dont expect the cbb waters to be "tamed" or even easy to handle because I can tell you first hand that the one I have HATES HUMAN interaction which is fine w/ me.
This one has all the characteristics of a wild animal and temperment. I got one thinking it was gonna be a whole lot diff. then a wc animal but really they arent. Just no parasites and prettier!!!

This is the water that I have right now. Not a cbb. This is just a wc one. It has grown a few inches since I took this picture.
