I just skimmed through the "new Nile" posts. And again this same old short story gets played into the ground. The problem is the mass importing of Niles, savs, etc.. allows for an inexpensive purchase price.
I get annoyed just as much as the next guy but can you blame a 13....14... yr old kid for picking up a NILE MONITOR for 35$ when he/she sees the opportunity. The dealers/breeders that purchase these animals from the importers are contributing the mass miss treatment of these animals, and animals ending up in the hands of an ignorant unaware person regardless of age.
Both of which are leading us down the road to laws and restrictions affecting us all negatively

Yes, and that’s why we come to these forums to educate people how to take care of them better. You’re not going to beat the system, so try to help it out some. If a few of these kids get good at monitors and start focusing on breeding them, it’s a step towards CBB Niles and Savannah monitors possibly here in the US. I’m still waiting on a few here to take those steps, but have faith they will.

I’m working on it, lol.

I need to find a new home for the salvators and then I will either hunt down a female for my (what I believe to be) male, or purchase a group of babies to raise up in hopes of a female.

The problem with the latter for me is that I get attached to animals quickly and easily, so selling excess males wil be emotional, ha ha ha.

Dont get me wrong I love seeing young people intersted, but I dont want to see the day when laws and restrictions brought on by the neglagent sale of potentialy dangerous animals, and the miss treatment of animals, affect our right to keep them.

I would be actually ok if they make a law where you need to be say 16 and prove it to buy a monitor. That will stop all the 10-14 year olds you see on youtube that are keeping a monitor in a 20 gallon with newspaper and a 90 degree basking spot. Sure some older people will do that too but it will help anyways. Im not saying some younger people arent responsible enough or have the ability to take care of a monitor. It also doesnt help that there are alot of videos going around of 13 year olds telling people how to raise monitors.

No it wouldn’t. They’d simply have their parents buy one for them.

The biggest youtube joke is a really old fart, and the 2nd worst is in his 20’s. There are videos of 13 year olds giving advice on reptiles because they are following these adults’ influence.

I’m 14 and I’ve had several people PM me questions about Bosc care.

I think he was trying to say that it should be harder if they raise it will be harder because some parents will ask how big it gets and if they go to a responsible pet shop the people will probally know and tell them. Your 14 but your actually someone who did research unlike alot of people older or younger. Btw This is xaaro291x. That file got hacked and when i try to log in it makes like 30 different files come up so i had to make a new one .
