Would it be better to use sheets of vinly flooring, rather than tiles, or does it matter?

What? sheets of vinyl flooring aren’t waterproof? Or, they told you that, ’cause they didn’t have it and wanted to sell you the tiles?

the sheets are water proof. I personally will either put sheets or spare kitchen tile in my cage under all my dirt and sand to keep the wood for a longer period of time.

If you hit the OSB/chipboard with a coat of spar urethane before adhering the tiles, even some mild leaking between tiles will have extra protection from rotting out the wood. Even FRP over plywood can get damage at the seams or anywhere there’s a breach in the plastic (screws).

I used the heavy duty pond liner and lined my cage what do you guys think of that?? I only had to screw it at the top so there shouldnt be any leaks.

 Cage

its almost done just need to add a foot more of dirt/leaf/sand mix
i didnt seal it completely with the vinyl because i ran out but i really only worried about the back and bottom
here some new pics all logs are secure.

that logs gets pretty hot 145 F and my other basking ranges from 123F to 130 F

but i did f up when i realized that in order to build the cage in the room i had to take out the other cage, so thats my next project im either gonna turn it into a 6L by 2 W 4H or 8L by 2W by 5H or something like that, it depends on if it can fit becuase its going back into the 8.5 W 11L room.

Hey is it safe to put the monitor in right after sealing it? Do any toxic fumes come from the sealant.
Ps sorry if thats a noob question. Iv never built a cage, when I was going to people told me to wait a bit and air the cage out to make sure there was no toxic fumes.
Thanks
Matt

it depends on what u use
i used vinyle for floor then silcon the bottom and top and let it air out for 3 hours with lights on before i started putting dirt plus monitor in.

BSM - make sure if you stick your head in there and whiff that there are no more fumes.

Also, how’s that female doing that got hurt? I haven’t heard an update on her in a week. Hope she’s doing well.

i don’t have any right now but in a couple months i might pick up 3 to 5 to raise them up,They are very cool monitors if you have space for them.
Right now I’m focusing on the argus/flavi crosses and argus and trying to get a small group of them going before i jump the gun i getting savannahs again. First I need to try and save up some money in the next couple months in order to get a group then if i have some space i will get those going. These in particular have gotten my attention in fact that they so smart and active and have such a variety in color and pattern plus if i get what im planning i doubt i will have extra space space for the savannahs too :( but you never know.
0.1 or 1.1 pure argus
0.1 if female pulls though if not 1.2 or 3 babies 50/50 argus/flavi
0.0.3 75% flavi 25% argus

I think i have some pics of my old ones, when i go upstate sometime if i ever due (dont feel like driving 3.5 hours then getting stuff out then driving back) i will go though storage and find my books along with a disk of most of the animals i owned.

 Cage

about half way done
before only 2 to 3 inches of dirt in the cage (yesterday)

got lucky today the 3 to 4 hours i was digging and bringing all the dirt downstairs i missed the rain by 3 min phew its poring right now. If your wondering why it took me so long to get dirt i was getting 2 different kinds
1. top layer which is normal black dirt which holds moisture good top 3 in
2. a foot or so down is a sandy brown dirt that i used in the past with my uros, tortoises and other monitors
then mix them together with some leafs
now
with about 6 to 8 all around the cage but need to add another 4 to 8 in
also gonna try and add a stump/tree root from my neighbors yard but its freakin heavy its 3.5 long and about 2 feet wide
