 San Jose Reptile Show 2008

Is anyone going to this show. I’ll be there tomorrow. It’s not particularly large, so you may want to wait for the Sacramento show in September, but if you’re in the neighborhood you should stop by.

I think it’s the prototype of a device used by the CIA for remote viewing. Chris is watching Osama Bin Laden and trying to get a fix on his position.

I was at the show today. It was not that huge. I had more fun looking at the snakes to be honest. I just hate seeing the monitors in such poor conditions. They had a sav that looked dehydrated. Its skin was flaking.

Although, there were two tables with green tree pythons and carpet pythons that made my day. The guys legitimately new what they were talking about. I have never held an 8 foot snake, but it was not near as intimidating as I thought it would be.

EGill: We had a very cute Centralian Python. You should have checked it out.

Highlights for me at these shows are usually the books. This show was sort of a disappointment in that sense. Still, I walked away with an out of print Monitor book of German origin and got the newest edition of "Iguana" magazine, which is by far the best reptile and amphibian periodical out there. IRCF was there too, and I donated some money to the cause.
Obviously the monitor situation was upsetting, and I’m glad we brought only one species, which were housed in ten gallon terrariums, rather than deli cups.
I don’t know if anyone got the opportunity to look around, but one table was selling a blue tree monitor for $399.00! I was flabbergasted. I guess that means more people will have the opportunity to own them. Kinda sad.

I would have loved to see a centralian Python. I plan on getting a jaguar python, centralian python, or a green tree python in a year or so. I have kinda of given up on the idea of a monitor in any foreseeable future. I might be able to accommodate an enclosure for akies in a year, but if I travel or anything like I plan it would be too much of a hassle. I think will probably wait till I have a house for a monitor. At the point I could get a larger species I want more as well.

Fortunately, I could see myself pulling off one of these three types of snakes, and I have plenty of time to make the right choice.

Are you from the bay area? I would love to see you collection if that would not seem awkward considering I am a random person on-line.

I thought it was one of those new "abstract art" things people pay $1234567890987654321 for.

I know how you California people are!

j/k.
