Wow John. Those are spectacular babies!

Sadly I can’t house any more lizards right now (in response to your e-mail). Now my brother’s room...that’s a thought ;).

Take care,
-Reed

thanks guys,

I love the tristis- fast, elegant and stealthy hunters. As babies, they are very agile they can chase down and catch crickets on a hop.

Sadly, I cannot keep all of them, I will enjoy them until its time they go to their new homes.

Cheers,

John

Gorgeous! Both Vtt and Vto are born with sort of orange heads like that it seems. They all look similar. Email me back John when you get a chance.

These guys have the behaviors you can view all day long on top of being beautifully marked.

Compared to many other monitor species .... V. tristis are shy animals - much like tree monitors. I can sit still and see mine out, but if the phone rings and I move suddenly, they either freeze in place or dart to cover. There’s nothing "up".

I was just being sarcastic. Wasn’t trying to be offensive or anything. I agree with you, lizards are far more interesting than snakes.

I would not have written "timmid" Susan as I know how to spell. LOL

Do you have anything in the way of experience to offer with monitor lizards or just nit-picking semantics b/c you’re bored?

Some people like to instigate drama intentionally. I’d bet my bottom dollar thats this is about someone poking thier nose where it does not belong. Krusty has always been very patient and diplomatic on this and other fora as well as forthcoming with whatever experience he has, and very likely has every reason to respond the way he did, judging by the history of the individual on this forum. These individuals should always be called out on their $hit IMO. This makes them less likely to continue soiling the forum with their useless nonsense.

No worries and I’ll drop my drama regarding the above - sorry Reed if I sounded like I was jumping down your throat.

What I originally meant (but poorly worded) was that my own personal preference is lizards over snakes as captives just because they flat out "do" more for you to be entertained by etc. in the cage and that leads to less neglect by the keepers in my mind. I love field herping snakes for pictures, but I don’t really care to keep them any more beyond that. Again, that’s just my 2 cents.

Mikelodi - I’d love to see pics of the Beaded Lizard. You don’t see those too often. Didnt’ Shiftylarry just purchase one as well???

I have no idea who else has them but i kinda saved this one and its not in the best shape.Iam having some trouble finding out how to set these guys up most people set them up like snakes on racks and i tried that and he threw up his food. So iam going to try and set him up like a monitor even tho every thing i read says not to we Will see if a hot spot lots of temp chooses and a foot of dirt does these guys best.

No. Don’t put them in a rack in tubs. Look at what ProExotics does with cattle troughs and deep dirt for their Gilas. That’s the way to go (without having any experience keeping Beadeds or Gilas). Think about how they live in nature in burrows and dens with the option to come out and bask/eat.

yeah iv had it set up like that be for and i just put him in another cage. They dont like it as hot as the monitors it seems like 115 basking spot is about right Evan tho iv never seen him bask beside when i put him under the light he will for a Lil bit but then hes goes under ground to conserve water. Its sad cause people keep them in racks with 90 degree hot spots on paper towels and they wounder why there lizards are allways soaking thanks.

Yeah, Chris should have the horridum by now. He was making payments for it last time I spoke to him about it. Heloderms are awesome lizards, but spend 99% of their life underground (hmmmm, reminds me of my ball python!).

Also, how did you end up with knob-tailed geckos!?!?!? You do mean the Australian variety right? Those go for A LOT of $$$!
