Thatís the kicker - the monitors sold at petstores commonly are Wild Caught African species that frequently are not doing well from the travel and stress. They are usually Savannah or Nile monitors which both get fairly large, particularly the Niles. The ígoodí ones are a bit more expensive because they are captive born and bred which takes a lot of time, passion and money to do. Ackies will not cost so much to take care of vs. a Nile, so donít just look at the ídealí of getting a monitor for $50. That cheap price tag will become much larger once you start feeding, heating and have to construct an enormous cage for it. Look at some of the Australian dwarf monitors.
