 Unidentified 8" snake in CT

found this little guy outside a barn in CT, it was about 8" long. I think it might be a Milk or maybe a Corn but I am not a snake guy, just curious about this beautiful little creature. It was released unharmed and I would really like to know what I have found.

Thanks in advance,
Sleedo

Eastern milksnake (Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum) is my first guess.

 Yup, Eastern Milk . . .

Eight inches, eh? Just a hatchling, but look at the "attitude."

That’s an eastern milk snake. gorgeous little snakes. all my time on the east coast I would go out to try and find one of them.. never did. lived there until I was 20. Tried to find one since I first saw a picture of one when I was seven. Definitely eastern milk though. good find.

I’m not an "expert" but I have owned/been studying reptiles since I was a kid,(I’m 54 now), and it looks like a rat or possibly a corn snake, not an eastern milk snake.

That is definitely not a rat snake. The most common rat snake on the east coast, especially that far north, is the black rat snake. Not that. Corn snakes don’t tend to have that white/cream color in the wild, just coppers and oranges. That is definitely an eastern milk.

I stand corrected. I just never saw one that brightly marked.

Yeah, easterns can be the most beautiful colubrids in North America. Most of the time they are dull and gray and kind of ugly, but when you find one of these red/cream colored ones... well, they’re gorgeous.
