 Breeding Pair

Here is pictures of my Sinaloan Milk pair. I’m hoping to breed them next year. Glitch my female is the first picture and her potential mate Byte is the second. Despite the look Glitch has in the picture both are realy easy to handle. These where the snakes that got me into reptiles, now I have seven snakes, six of which are breeding pairs. I’m also hoping to breed my Kenyan Sand Boa’s next year as well.

 Breeding Pair

I love milk snakes. I always wanted one but it took me forever to finally find one I liked. Glitch was my first snake and I thought she was amazing until I found Byte. He has the most amazing color yellow on him. It’s a beautiful bright pastel yellow. Glitch’s yellow is almost white. I hope he passes on that amazing color to his off spring. Not only does he have the color but the iceing on the cake is his wonderful personality. I have friends who don’t even like snakes, but after they saw Byte they still don’t like snakes but they like Byte, lol. It’s funny they don’t see him as a snake he’s a Byte, totally different animal.

 Breeding Pair

Right now I’m trying to add some sand boas to my collection. I got Kenyans but I would love to get a nice pair of Rough Scales as well. I’m saving up to get a really nice pair of Pie Balls but it will probably take me a year to save up a couple thousand dollars to get the kind I want. That’s the nice thing about reptiles as a hobby, if you set it up right the hobby pays for its self.

 Breeding Pair

Good lord! I purposly pair everything up so that my snakes pay for themselves. I roughly know how many babies to expect from everyone so I pick what snakes I’m going to breed to pay for everyone that year. As soon as they hatch I take them down to my local herp store and they give me 1/2 cash and 1/2 credit. It works great I never have to pay to feed any body and the cash pays for things they need that I can’t get there. The snakes have their own bank account everything that has to do with them goes in and out of that account. What other hobby can you have that doesn’t cost you a dime after a small intitial investment?

You’re Very Lucky With Your Pet Store . . .

I’ve got one that has my corn hatchlings "on consignment," and it’ll be strictly store credit, and I feel fortunate on that one (I also raise aquatic plants for them).

But this is Utah where money is really tight and wages and salaries are low . . . There are also quite a number of people raising snakes of various sorts (I’m looking at my Nelson’s for next year’s breeding project, and if the "het for albino" claims hold up, I might have something to crow about). Two years ago I had them take one for a credit, and another guy brought in three more, and all of them promptly escaped . . .

So I had to do some talking to get the deal I have right now . . .

My herp store is a gem. I live in a cow town of Webster Florida. The store here is 40 acers. They have done work for the Discovery Channel and Animal Plant and yet they choose to not advertise. The staff is great and well knowledgeable. Glades Herps Rules! You guys are awsome.

The nice thing is my parents live with me. I just keep them all in my room in a rack system so they don’t really know how many I have. We have the don’t ask don’t tell policy. It seems to work pretty well.

thats a good idea but i never really liked racks. you cant really see your snake. i love looking at it too haha. but i do have shelfs that i dont use that if i just put a thing of glass over each shelf it would be perfect i would have like 7 more snake cages and i wouldnt even loose any space in my room.

Yeah, I like looking at mine too. My containers are clear so I can still see them but it’s not the same as having an enclosure thats all decked out with your snakes enjoying the natural surroundings. But at the moment I have seven snakes here at my place and three more at my feince’s house. I want to get a shed and turn it into a snake house. I live on 40 acers here so I have the room for a shed or two, lol.
