Yo, avoid sand. Avoid all loose substrate. Leos, especially young ones, are prone to eating it and getting majorly plugged up to the point that they’d die without human intervention. It’s just a lose lose situation. Besides, wild leos don’t live in that sort of environment. They live in hot, arid areas and hide out in rocky outcrops during the day. The best you can simulate rocky outcrop, the best you are.

Instead, stick with solid substrates. Repticarpet, paper towel, non-adhesive shelf liner. If you want to go a step fancier, rough tile or slate. And if you want to be hardcore, some people really go all the way with their own creativity (like plaster and cat litter liners or styrofoam, acryllic painting, and sealing.)

Get reptile carpet at your local pet store or online. Paper towels are pretty much a no brainer. And tile would be a home improvement store like home depot or lowe’s etc.

Avoid sand at any cost.

If you are going for looks try using slates or tiles, but if you just need a good substrate you paper towels, they are the best option out there.

Oh I’m sorry, I haven’t used the carpet, so I didn’t know. So, I guess you should go for paper towels or tiles

Avoid sand at all cost and like I said reptile carpet never use it and leo died from that. so tile or paper towels is better. I keep my new leo on paper towels
