SO PISSED OFF READY TO SELL

So Nan decided that 3 dys of eating in a row is enough for her and hasn’t eaten since thursday! Honestly I am sick and tired of doing everything i can for her. If anyone is in MD and wants a lizard and cage the whole deal.....she is yours! I am so pissed at her.

Really? You are just giving up like that? You know, things like this take time, effort, and patience... lots and lots of patience. Don’t be pissed at her, what fault is it of hers? She’s not doing this on purpose just to defy you or make you mad.

I have been trying anything I am not giving up just yet, but if she doesn’t shape up in another month I must sell her, I am a college student and can’t handle this. I don’t understnd what kind of gecko has no will to eat on its own or when you put food right in front of its face!

I have a baby corn snake that’s the same. he hatched in October 08 and has not eaten a thing on his own. i am force feeding it every week. It takes time and Patience. he is slowly putting on weight and growing very slowly! but i wouldnt have just dumped him.

Keep trying.

If you are talking about a leopard gecko, 3 days in a row of not eating isn’t normal. Leopard geckos shouldn’t be fed everyday to begin with. (Unless they are babies or gravid.) One of my Leos refused food for three weeks, and I had to force feed her. My husbandry was spot on. She’s just a stubborn little girl. 3 days? that’s nothin!

I have not given up on her, that was all said in my pissed off rage. But honestly I dont want to have her never eat on her own. And force feeding isnt my thing or hers. She really hates being forced and I hate doing it.

Is she an adult or a baby? Is she a new gecko? Adults should only be fed about 3 times a week. Some babies, and even adults are stressed because its a new environment so they refuse to eat. If the gecko is new, leave it alone as much as possible, and try to keep the room very quiet. This is especially important if it is a baby. They need to eat very often.

Shes a baby maybe. Still got her blue shades on so shes got plenty of growing to do. I have a friend who bought one at the same time and he’s smiley huge now. Colossal. Capable of sinking the titanic huge. Its just frustrating for me because I got all the necessary equipment and more and my friend just has a tank with 4 rocks, a small uth and a florescent light and hers became jabba the hut haha. Maybe I’m being impatient

but if he/she is an adult or a year older and doesnt eat for a couple of weeks go to a vet for sure

3 days is nothing to be concerned about in an adult leo, but I know how you feel with being frustrated. My girl Zelda and I have been on a roller coaster ride through hell with getting her to eat, and in the end I have had to hand feed her every single day of her life. She won’t eat from a dish, the bugs get away and it’s a waste of money and gross when all of a sudden a cricket or giant bug leaps out of the tank at you.
She’s about four now so that’s a lot of time and effort to keep her happy and healthy, despite her little "I’m the princess and I’m not eating this week" episodes. "Grrr you stupid thing why don’t you eat?!!" I always say to her, but I also know that it’s normal for her to sometimes just stop eating, so i don’t worry anymore. Keep offering food every night, try to keep the lights off if you can and drop them about an hour before you go to try to feed her, that helped with Zelda a lot. Try different insects, especially if you have been feeding one staple bug for a long time, such as crix or mealies. My magic number for any one staple food, with Zelda, is about three months and then she will refuse to eat any more and I will have to switch to something else. She is kinda picky about her food. But hang in there and if after a while you still just don’t want her and don’t want the hassle of keeping your gecko, then find a new home for her. There’s nothing wrong with giving her away or selling her to someone who wants and will take the time to deal with a finicky eater, and it’s certainly better than just saying "to hell with you!" and just letting her starve or something. best of luck to you.

Actually I understand COMPLETELY! My leo, Allie stopped eating for the longest time and got dangerously thin, like we’re talkin’ her tail was like a thread. I hated seeing her like that and I had no idea what i was doing wrong. So knowing she was in such bad condition, I gave her away to a reptile rescue guy instead of selling her and now she’s happy and healthy and has other geckos she’s running around with and Im really glad I did that.

So after owning leopard geckos for 8 years I decided to move on to crested geckos for a while. I actually got my first one today. So I understand, i gave mine away becuase I felt i somehow wasn’t giving her what she needed.

What are you feeding it ? I have leos that refuse crickets but LOOOVE mealworms and vice versa. Have you tried offering other food items ? if not maybe you might want to try.
