 Genetics/Breeding

I have a male gecko who is a normal or a high yellow. Regardless of his morphlessness he is a beautiful gecko. I love animals so I am thinking about getting a new frog or a corn snake. But either way if I dont do that I might get a new 20 gal to put 2 females in. What kind of morphs could I breed with a normal/high yellow male and get some of the morphs out of it. Don’t worry this won’t be anytime soon, I am just interested in starting my research into it.

Your not going to get to many crazy morphs with a normal, reguardless of the female that you would breed him with. You could get a Tremper Albino female and breed her with your normal male. The offspring would give you normals het for Tremper Albino. Breed the siblings back to each other to get some nice Tremper Albinos. If you really are into breeding you can breed the Tremper Albinos to a nice Super Hypo Tangerine to get Sunglows.

Really, I think that breeding racks are better than tanks, they conserve more space when dealing with quite a few geckos. Be prepared to have yet another cage up and ready if the females start to fight.

would dominant morphs like enigma and mack snow be able to produce a small number of either?

I’m not to familiar with Enigmas as I have never worked with them. When you breed Macks to Normals you would be getting a 50% of Mack Snows, 50% Normal Mack Siblings.

Enigma is a dominant trait meaning you can get a one copy enigma in the first generation that’ll look just like a two copy enigma. I don’t quite know the percentages although I think it’s 50/50 Mack/Normal...

Mack snow is a co-dom meaning they produce super forms (Mack Snow x Mack Snow can produce 1 in 4 Super Snows) If bred to a Normal, you’ll get 50% Mack Snow and 50% Normals. You can’t be het for Mack Snow so normals are just normal.

I know your situation. I suggest you get a mac snow or mac super snow. With macs you can get 50% mac babies or even better if you re lucky like me. Im working on some mac blizzards/tremper pairs so maybe if you re interested I can hook you up woth some nice babies next year. Maybe even a mac super blazing blizzards? hehe but ofcourse those with be very high priced...

i’d try to find a minimally spotted gecko with a lot of yellow color, you can breed them to get less spots, could be interesting project...

the downside to macks is that crossing that high yellow to a mack will wash out the color, you will get some macks first year breeding , though
