 Monty Update

Well, when we took him in on the 2nd, Dr. Maas told me that Monty had somehow cut open the inside of his mouth. Still a mystery how he did that.
So he was on antibiotics every three days until the 17th. The swelling should have gone down in about a week. Well now it’s the 20th and the swelling hasn’t changed at all. Since it was barely infected when we took him in, Dr. Maas said to bring him back in if the swelling didn’t go down for a culture sample. Since the mouth isn’t the cleanest place there’s a chance bacteria has built up causing the infection to grow. So Tuesday Monty goes in for a culture sample, probably metrodonizole and another antibiotic (hopefully not another shot >_<) until the tests come back...then I don’t know what. But Dr. Maas is confident he will recover since we acted quickly and are keeping such close tabs on it. He’s lost a little bit of weight and girth in his tail, but has eaten a little bit since this started, so no one is worrying about him getting the weight back as long as we can stabilize it. I’m being told it’s just part of him healing since he can’t eat as well as he normally would.
I had to do a scary feeding the other day. He can’t see well, since his right eye is now swollen almost completely shut, and all I’ve got for him are crickets (looking for silkworms...for the past month) so I had to help him out a lot and corral them towards him. He did the favor of pulling off their legs for me every time, but in the end I had to put the crickets on the tip of my finger and get ready for Monty to strike lol. Amazingly they stayed put long enough for him to get ready, get re-ready, get distracted, and finally get ready again then pounce. I only got bit once out of five times! lol
Soooo Tuesday yet another update on what is going on in my big guys mouth. I’ll get some pics of his face up later today. Probably in about an hour. He’s shedding right now. His color is looking very nice, though.

These lil buggers are tough, I dont care what anyone says. Like most pets though, I think that our attitudes resonate around us and they can feel it. Just treat him with as much love as you did before and just like nothing was ever wrong. Sure medicine kills germs, and gets our body in motion. But it’s love that truly kills the pain. I hope Monty makes a full speedy recovery, and that you take care of yourself too during this. Because its blatantly obvious that youre doing everything you can. So just remember that, youre a great friend to Monty.

I’m sure mine would wish him well. Well except Anubis, he’d probably be a pistol as usual hahaha.

=) Thanks.
Well here’s what it looked like on the way to the vet. It wasn’t red like that yesterday. He can open his eye now...which I guess is good.
Monty has to stay at the vet over night. They’re going to drain the lump and clean out the wound. The cut did heal some and the antibiotics helped a lot, but not quite enough. I’m amazed by the fact that without the antibiotics this would be worse! Poor Monty. The lump is driving him mad. He’s constantly rubbing it or scratching at it like a dog. I’m very anxious to see what it looks like tomorrow.
It’s not quite certain what the lump is. There’s about a 5% chance it’s a tumor with cancer. It could be a build up of dummy, or an infection. They’ll do a sweep and run a test to see what kind of bacteria it is if it’s something they can’t just drain so they can chose the proper antibiotic. But they’re very confident he’ll make a speedy recovery...this time. Agh I hate this!!! D=
Anyway, here’s some pics. Tomorrow I’ll get more since it will look different. He looks much sadder than he really is! Trust me.

He’s lost a bit of weight, but it’s not very concerning at this point in time. He’s very active, drinking normally. Just not very hungry which is quite understandable. Hopefully he can get a good meal in the next couple of days =)

And cause she’s cute, a couple pics I just took of Peaches being silly. She’s got a little pot belly! lol

He looks so much better!!! They just had to drain it (^_^) So happy!!!
He’s on antibiotics again for the next few weeks (more shots, agh!). Monday he’s going back to the vet for a follow up and another draining. He looks fantastic!
They cut a little hole behind his eye, drained it, and then filled it with antibiotics. And they cleaned the wound in his mouth out. The main thing I was worried about was that he wouldn’t wake up from anesthesias.
But look how good it looks! A little stretchy looking but I’m sure he’s happy to have all of the pressure off.

I’m going to try and feed him tonight. Hopefully he’s feeling good enough to eat something.

Thank you =’)
And thanks to everyone who has cheering Monty on.
He went in for a final flushing and hopefully the swelling will not come back. It really isn’t expected to =)
Yaaay. A few sheds from now all traces of this should be gone.
Everyone loves Monty lol. I had two vet techs and both doctors come and ask how he was doing. They have a nick name for him there but I forgot what it was lol. Something about his tail...it’s funny though because he hates all of them haha.
He’s very grouchy right now.
A heads up, I’ll probably be taking some pics this week to post. Everyone’s going outside soon for some sun.
