And they can release their tails like most lizards, and their vertebra’s are different than snakes, oh yeah and their personalities.

Legless lizards are burrowers, so provide a substrate that allows for this. They need a large water bowl for soaking and swimming. They eat a variety of invertebrates(crickets, mealworms) as well as pinkie mice, and some fruits and vegetables. There is some debate as to whether or not a UVB light is required, I have had my legless for about a year with no UVB, her jaw is still strong and she is fiesty as ever. I did provide a light for about a week but it actually caused her to hide more. I gutload/dust the crickets with calcium powder and also inject calcium powder and vitamins into the f/t pinkies she gets. Legless lizards are local to the southeast and need warm humid tanks. My reptile room is kept at 80 degrees. She is in a 20 long, which is the minium i believe you should use seeing as these lizards reach lengths of 3 feet when properly cared for. I provide a low watt heat source at one end to provide a basking area. I mist the tank twice a day. for substrate i use a 1 inch layer of gravel, for drainage. On top of the gravel i placed three inches of a mixture of nuetral potting soil and coconut bark. I change this weekly.
