I saw that. I believe they will disprove it a few year from now with even more new eveidence. The theories and evidence about komodos has changed drastically throughout the past few years. But I have always believed in this version, where they actually have a poison/venom.

Realistically, if an animal is going to risk life and limb by attacking a large dangerous prey animal, it should have a reasonable chance of that animal dying in its territory, rather than running away and dying in somebody else’s. Anticoagulants, combined with very serious bite damage, have better chance of accomplshing that than waiting for a bacterial infection to take its course and eventually prove fatal.

The mouth bacteria might just be a side effect of having teth that generally kill by blood loss. If you’ve got serrated teeth for ripping flesh, it’s hard to floss. If you eat dead buffalo and don’t floss, you’re going to have a lot of bacteria in your mouth. But outside of science fiction shows, bleeding to death still kills WAY faster than any ubergerm.

I’ll admit, something about that infection theory has always sounded kind of "off" to me. It’s like hearing that your friend just got his throat torn out by a leopard and saying "Oh no! I hope he didn’t catch rabies!"

Also (sorry for the double post) but if there really is venom (there is, but it’s just an anti-coagulant) just do some freakin chemical tests on it...
