 Pure white kingsnake

My boyfriend and I have a pure white kingsnake... he thought she was a California King, but I’ve been searching through the internet and cannot find any information or pictures of any other California kingsnakes that are pure white (no bands, no other markings). Has anybody ever seen a bread like her? She’s pure white with green eyes...

That looks like a Leucistic Ratsnake to me. She has a much different head shape than a King. To be sure you can check her vent, if its a single scale it’s a King, if it’s divided, it’s a Rat. ;)

The closest I have to a pure white King......

Yes, Lampro is spot on, that is a leucistic ratsnake, not a kingsnake.

Really?? The place he bought her from told him she was a female kingsnake.. what exactly do you mean by single or divided vent? Also she rattles her tail, do ratsnakes do that too? She sounds like a rattlesnake when she’s not happy lol

Hard to really make the plates out on your pic, but the anal plate seems divided or particulary divided (ratsnakes do vary some in this matter).

What really reveals your snake as a ratsnake and not a kingsnake is the slim body build, the long tail, the eye and the typical ratsnake headshape with a rather thin neck. Kingsnakes have evenly shaped head and neck.

This typical neck/head feature is why some snake owners reject kingsnakes.

I have no albino kingsnake, but you can clearly see the difference in neck and head shape between your snake and the one Lampro shows above.

This is my Cali desert banded 50/50 male, and you can see than the neck doesn’t narrow at all behind the head.

Did a bit of searching and found that rat snakes do rattle so that answers that question :) .. I also found that there are a number of different types of rat snakes that can be pure white, is there a way that I can determine what specific type of rat snake we have? Considering my boyfriend was told it was a kingsnake when he bought her, I have little faith in going back to the store to find out.

Rat snakes dont have a rattle but they do shake their tail when threatened or angry. I have a Blue Eyed Lucy same snake but with blue eyes and she’s about a year old now and she does the same tail rattle so does my MBK and even some of my yearling corns my milk snakes also shock their tails. My Blue Eyed Lucy is a Texas rat snake so thats probably the specific rat snake you have if your still wondering what type of rat snake. Hope that helped some.
