Nice looking animals Mike, not sure I could go as far owning a ’Poptart’ though, more power to you.

Me? I have 3 Kings, an Eastern Milk and Ducky, my Yellow Anaconda. I need to get some pics on here soon. Take care.

Cool cool, didnt know you owned any kings, or colubrids at that. Lol. Awsome though! :) Hows your Kings temperments? Bow Jangles acts up now and again, to a point where hes scary. Lol. But I doubt an ol’d little King is gonna spook you with your Conda and what not. Lol.

Hey Mike, imagine that, some common ground ;^)

I’ve been a snake guy since I was a kid (dont ask how old I am :)

I have a wc Eastern Milk, 0.1. Her name is Smiley due to the Jack O’Lantern pattern on here head. She is too cool, as, at feeding time she will calmly, without striking, take the thawed mouse from my fingers.

And the Kings are:

Eekus, 1.0 CB Goins King. Very nice looking, not pattern, almost looks speckled, or a very tan leg in black fishnets. He has only bitten me once, when I tried to hand feed him like Jetzen (L.Roy).

Rose, 0.1 Goins King, patterned. She has been a chainsaw of late. I’ve bled from her more than all my childhood injuroes combined I think.

And Ferocia, 0.1 Albino Striped King. I didn’t really like her at first (she is my sons, i’m not fond of albinos, they just dont click with me) but she has gotten very pretty. Where she wa pink is now white, with a very nice continuous yellow stripe doen her back.

Then there is the Duck, he is 7’ and about 35# or so. For a Yellow, he has the demeanor of a puppy. But the other night, outside, at dusk, he struck at me 3-4 times. Just gotta respect them. As I’ve told everyone, own a snake, you WILL get bit. (Hope that wasn’t too much about how all snakes are the same LOL)

You take care Mike.

Hahahahahahaha. Whats really finny about me when I was younger, I didnt like snakes. Because they are cute, fluffy animals. Lol. Man, how times have changed. I wont ask how old you are, I already know youre old. Lmao! :) I like Eastern Milks, they always caught my eye. That must be some pattern! Bow Jangles has a smiley face right on top of his head, I must get a pic of that one day. Its so ironic, since he isnt a very happy snake. Lol. Hahaha, King Snakes have some attitudes, dont they? Fabio, my Prairie King is a sweet heart, but is totally insane. I call him the A.D.D snake, he can never keep still, always wiggling about. Its impossible to hold him still. Only bit me once, because I smelled like a mouse. Ah, must be a bit freaky, having a 7 foot Anaconda striking at you. Lol. Jynx, my Ball Python has never struck at me. She may only be 3 feet right now, but I rather not feel a bite from her. Ill leave that to Bow Jangles. Also, my Corn Snake is as calm as anything. Awsome snake. :) Yeah, you always have to expect a bite, of my 4 snakes, 3 of them have bit me. Not fun..Luckily they are still small. Lol.

And clever joke. :P Hahaha.

I don’t do spiders, but you have an awesome collection of kings. The name Pop Tart is really cute, though :)

Your tarantula PopTart is beautiful. I wouldn’t mind having one of those. I have wolf spiders in my home, and always have to tell people to not kill them, as they eat all the pest insects and keep your house vermin free, at least of insects. A tarantula would make short order of that mouse I now have loose in my cabin!

Okay, and now for the stupid question......

I live outside of Denver and we have a "Butterfly Pavilion" where kids can learn about all kinds of creatures up close and personal. One of the critters is a tarantula named "Rosie". (Actually Rosie has a lot of body doubles...) Anyway, I have always wondered how they can expect that Rosie will never bite the kids? Is she de-poisoned? I mean she gets handled daily (with supervision) by hundreds of kids. Aren’t those kind of scary odds?

Thank you for your patience.
Linda

Rosed Haired Tarantulas are very mellow spiders. They can, and sometimes will bite, but its mostly a last resort. If the spider was "de-poisoned" itll die. Lol. Same with "de-fanged". It cant be done. "Rosie" is probably just a well tempered spider, if she does gets annoyed, shell get defensive, but a bite wont be all that common. All spiders are venomous, but a Rose Haired Tarantulas bite isnt deadly, or even that problematic, unless allergic. If someones allergic to bee stings, they should be catious around the spider. Hope I cleared some stuff up. :D

Thans for the compliments!

Thank you very much, Mike. That was extremely informative. What do you happen to know about Brown Recluses? Like, are they deadly for babies and toddlers? Or is it just a nasty case of necrosis? I am just wondering and don’t know anyone bitten or anything. A few people and I were wondering about it today after we thought we found a Black Widow (it wasn’t).
I know this is a King Snake Forum. Sorry!- Getting a little off topic.

Despite many rumors to the contrary, the brown recluse spider has not established itself in California
Yay for me!
