 I need help..!

Ok, I need help trying to get my snake in the right cage/tub. I can not find any information on tubs, how exactly do they work I guess is what I want to no.

Any suggestions on where I can get him a good house, right now he is 32 inches long. I do not no if I want a glass house, what is a good size to invest in.

Any advice, tips ! Thank you all for your help!

 I need help..!

Hello. I am a new snake owner myself but I can give you a little bit of help. One thing that might be helpful would be to take some time reading some old threads from this forum. There are already lots of discussions about tubs and cages which go into great detail. Many have lots of photos to look at. It seems to me that the choice between a plastic tub and a glass tank is purly a personal one. Those of us with glass prefer it for better viewing. Plastic tubs seem to be a little bit harder for snakes to break out of and they are definitely more space efficient, especially if you plan to have many snakes. You’ll need a UTH, an Under Tank Heater for one side of the bottom of your tank. You need to pick a good substrate. Many like aspen shavings, others swear by fluffy pine shavings. I think sand is not good because it breeds germs well. I have heard of some people using some kind of astroturf which they switch out with a spare to clean one. I have also heard of paper towels or newspaper.
Vinney will need a big water bowl, big enough that he can submerge himself fully if he wants to. He might enjoy some hiding places, called "hides" on the warm side of the tank, as well as the cool side. My snake is more of a burrower, he is a Desert King snake and while he does seem to like the hides, he is just fine with enough aspen to burrow in. You should have a way to monitor the heat gradient in the tank. I don’t know a whole lot about this so I will leave that to someone else. I have my snake in a 30-40 gallon (glass) tank. He is over 3 feet long and it seems to be a good size for him. I think I heard it would be nice if your snake could stretch out all the way at least diagonally but I might be making that up. Good luck! I saw a photo of Vinney and he is a nice looking snake.

Two items that are must haves whether one has a glass or a plastic habitat are:
1. Thermostat
2. Indoor-outdoor thermometer.
Put the probe to the thermostat in the same place you put the outdoor probe to the thermometer, in the warm end of the tank, or tub. You want to be able to moderate the warm end so it doesnt overheat or not heat enough. Put the indoor part of the thermometer on the cool end of the tank, or tub, like by the water dish.
Not having a thermostat is like not having brakes on your car!
Not having a thermometer is like not having any headlights at night!

Hi, Wisema2297,
In your photos you show a couple of your snakes in actual shoe boxes in the bigger plastic tubs, with no water or anything, just a little substrate. What is the purpose of this? I am not understanding it.
In the corner of one of the photos you have a little glass tank, it looks like a 10 gallon, that is what I have for my snake, and will be building a rack system (more like a modified book shelf) to hold more of the glass tanks, up to 20 gallon capacity. I like glass so I can see my snake and she can see out, although plastic tubs are a good thing, too. Could you post another photo of the heat system close up? I am not too clear on how plastic tubs are heated, even though I’ve Googled the devil out of that subject!
All in all, I like your set up. It gives me ideas for my own design. Thanks for posting the photos!
