 Advice?

Hi everyone, Well I just recently got my first snake, Its a king snake, his name is Vinney. He is about one year old and 32 inches long. I got him sunday, and the guy told me he just ate Saturday, and to feed him again Wed. So today I did as he said, and boy he was hungry lol, he actually seemed hungry after he ate the first fuzzy, it only took seconds for him to devourer the first one.

Couple of questions, I no not to handle him after he eats, how long before its ok, He ate around 1pm, and we tried handleing him around 11pm, a pinkish looking thing was popping out from his underbelly, I looked online and it matched with a cloaca, what does that mean? I can not find anything to tell me.

Also any tips please, am i doing things right does everything seem normal? should i feed him again saturday? I here so many different things, only once a week, but it seems as if the pet store feed him 2 a week. ( i got him from a family owned store, not a big supply type chain store)

Thanks for all your help!

congrats on the new snake! you need to post some pictures!

don’t handle him for at least 24 hours after the snake eats. i feed my king every 5 days unless he is acting like he is hungry. if he starts moving around a lot he is probaby hungry.

i can’t tell you about the cloaca, it might just be because you handled him too soon after he ate.

good luck!

hg

Did the pink thing look like this?

After my snake eats she wants at least two days to digest her food. Everything snakes do is done slowly(except escaping! )
So Vinnie may have been expressing his displeasure at being handled so soon after his meal. Sometimes the musk, at least with my snake, does not have much of a smell (at least to me), but the pinkish inside of her cloaca will show a little.
These are old photos of Snakezoid; she no longer has any cat bite scars on her neck and is plumper and sleeker now!
Post some photos of Vinnie:)

I would advise to keep his feeding schedual as it is. If he’s eating 2 days a week and seems content, then don’t mess with it. I made that mistake with my snake Artimas.......NEVER AGAIN!!!! Just my advice.

Or if it is a boy snake like Black Thunder, I think it could be a penii? Is that the right spelling? not sure but Thunder will stick it out and more often than not he will musk us. A new technique we learned is to pick him up with one hand over his vent so he cannot stick it out and musk. After he calms down then we can remove our hand from there. Good luck!
