This link has a good detailed instructions on setting up a frog tank. The moss is the kind you can collect off trees; that green sort of frilly stuff. You can keep a colony of frogs and feed them a controlled diet of bugs you know are clean. Just washing off the frog isn’t enough, as it is pretty hard to wash off the inside of the frog’s stomach. This of course entails raising the bugs, too, if you are uncertain they are pesticide free. I feed my western fence lizards grasshoppers from my rural property that I know are clean, as I don’t use any pesticides on my land. This winter I will probably feed them crickets I raise myself, or grasshoppers if my grasshopper experimental breeding program works out. In the link article he mentions Supersoil; this is clean potting soil available at Walmart for a reasonable price. It comes in one and two cubic ft bags. I’m using that for my grasshoppers, dry as they like very low humidity, with about an inch of aspen on top, which they like. Frogs like alot of humidity, so I think the tank this guy describes in this link would work well. All in all, one winds up having a complete food chain circle, raising the food for the food for the food for the critter you are keeping as a pet:) |

Besides, it is safer overall to feed them captive raised mice instead of wild food. |
