I’m sorry that Ziggy died. It was courageous of you to try to save any eggs she might have had. Was there any chance the frogs had been exposed to some sort of pesticide residue from like maybe the bugs they ate?

thats what i was thinking i was thinking that they had some pestasides on them but i washed the frog off really good before i fed her i guess one of the bugs was exposed to something but just in case it was something to do with the beding i had in there tank i cleaned it out and put them in a different tank i was thinking about getting some repticsand as they call it would it be better than dirt

Link
This link has a good detailed instructions on setting up a frog tank. The moss is the kind you can collect off trees; that green sort of frilly stuff.
You can keep a colony of frogs and feed them a controlled diet of bugs you know are clean. Just washing off the frog isn’t enough, as it is pretty hard to wash off the inside of the frog’s stomach. This of course entails raising the bugs, too, if you are uncertain they are pesticide free.
I feed my western fence lizards grasshoppers from my rural property that I know are clean, as I don’t use any pesticides on my land. This winter I will probably feed them crickets I raise myself, or grasshoppers if my grasshopper experimental breeding program works out.
In the link article he mentions Supersoil; this is clean potting soil available at Walmart for a reasonable price. It comes in one and two cubic ft bags. I’m using that for my grasshoppers, dry as they like very low humidity, with about an inch of aspen on top, which they like. Frogs like alot of humidity, so I think the tank this guy describes in this link would work well.
All in all, one winds up having a complete food chain circle, raising the food for the food for the food for the critter you are keeping as a pet:)

OH, I must add, I don’t feed my lizards to my snake as they are pets, too. They are only used to scent her feeding jar so she will eat her pinkies.

Rubbing a mouse with toad or lizard is the easiest approach for sure. Lizard smell works with my king with her pinkies. I just put the lizard in her feeding jar for a few hours, let him stink it up, then take him out and put her and her pinkies in the jar and she eats, no problem.
Besides, it is safer overall to feed them captive raised mice instead of wild food.

Woah, I haven’t been on here in a while. Sorry about Ziggy man, I know what it’s like to loose a beloved pet as do lots of others, and it sucks. Once again sorry, R.I.P. Ziggy.
