 Sand for MBK Substrate???

I am currently desighning a 20 gal long for my young MBK, and I would like to do a naturalistic desert terrarium for her.

I guess my main question is can I use sand in the right context???

Maybe be if I do different enclosure feeding???

I know that impaction is the number one worry for a sand substrate, but I would be eliminating that problem with different enclosure feeding.

Are there any other draw backs to using sand other than impaction???

I currently have her on Aspen bedding.

Thanks

Clay

I still wouldn’t use it. Harder to borrow in and if they do they can breath it in and get RIs and such.

I suggest leaving the aspen bedding. My Artimas loves it in her tank, and a seperate feeding container never hurts.
A pic of when I first got Artimas in April of this year...

How she looks now....

And her feeding container...

Yeah i might just do that, I was also told that coco fiber wouldn’t be bad either. I’ll figure somthing out. But the sand idea is deffinately out.

Here are pics of my Barroness, I got her 4 months ago.

And her in her tank...

Sorry all pics are off a camera phone.

No worries, so are mine.....
Nice looking baby you have there. Baroness looks quite happy with the way her tank is.

I use aspen as well. I’ve found a lot of sands are just too dusty and coconut fiber sometimes has bugs!

A neat thing to do though is get some plastic foliage to kind of fill in and provide a little cover. My snake loves it! She’s definitely eating with a lot more vigor and more active in the evening. I purchased all of mine from Michaels, an arts and crafts store. They’re not the fabric ones, just all plastic. They’re easy enough to dump into a pot of boiling water to sterilize later when it comes to cleaning day.

I use aspen too. Make sure all those rocks and stuff in it’s cage is stable too. Nice MBK though.
