 Should I be worried?

We fed our king snake, Oscar, 2 pinkies on Friday, he was out and moving around his tank for a few days, but now he’s been hiding for 2 days, my son tried to pick him up yesterday and he was moving around, but he said Oscar felt really hard, so he didn’t pick him up. I put the light back on him while he was uncovered and kinda looks blue-ish, could he be hiding because he’s about to shed? Just not sure if I’m over reacting or not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

When my young Cali king gets ready to shed she just wants to hide. Her skin gets a sort of grayish blue cast and at one point in the process her eyes become cloudy and she can’t see, which makes her shyer than usual. I always have some moist sphagnum moss around her water dish in case she needs a little humidity to help with shedding. After she is done and the old skin is off ( you will find it snagged on something usually, so give him something he can snag it on) she is again active and hungry. This whole shedding thing usually takes about a week. They don’t want to eat or be bothered at all during this process. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water.

It sounds like shedding "symptoms" to me. I would have to say watch it though. Snakes can become very vicious while they are in shedding mode. Oscar probably felt hard because he probably tensed up when your son reached in.

Thank you so much Greatballzofire and Mileo45 for all your help. This is the first snake we’ve ever owned, and even though I’m still not sure how I feel about Oscar, hahahaha, I would hate for anything to happen to him.

I’m glad we can help.
My partner also is sort of ambivalent about Snakezoid. Usually when he looks in her tank he doesn’t see anything, so he calls my reptiles NoSeeUms. He says it is like having a giant earthworm for a pet. Hmmmm....I guess what it is that is appealing about reptiles is sort of hard to explain to a "normal" person. LOL!
Anyway, here is my baby today; she has gotten beefier since I acquired her May 19.

Still not too good with one handed photography.

And she’s back in her sphagnum most nest; it has been very hot here and later today she will get a cool pack as well.

Snakezoid looks like Oscar. So far he’s cute, as long as he stays in the tank, or my son has him. But if he gets out, not so sure, hahahaha.

Oscar looks about the same age as Snakezoid. How did you acquire him? One of my cats "gave" me Snakezoid.
Today during that photoshoot she was the most calm and relaxed she’s been since winding up in captivity. It’s been quite a transition from a scrawny little cat-bit wild thing to the sleek contented little being she is today.

 Should I be worried?

We went to an open house last month, and the dad had him, and I think was sorta teasing us about letting our son have a snake. Well we have 2 cats, 1 rottweiler and 5 fish, so I figured what’s one more. So we took him home. He seems like a good snake, he’s real calm and when my son goes to the tank, if Oscar is out, he’ll almost come to him. He doesn’t seem to mind being held at all, so I figure all is good. I don’t generally like snakes, but I think it’s his color that makes me not so scared of him. And of course, he’s still small and can’t eat my cats yet. HAHAHAHA

He will never get big enough to eat your cats, but he is certainly small enough to be eaten by the cats! Make sure the lid on Oscar’s tank is cat proof.
