.....my first hatchling for the year is out!!! Looks like a continuation of last years clutch from Bones and Bandit. Does look to be fairly big for a one day old. The second one has just slit it’s egg.........

Sorry for the blur, still getting used to the new camera. ;)

Just missing the yellowish color, but that may come later. ;)

What surprises me about all of Bandit’s hatchlings so far is that they’ve all been stark black and white. (including last years) I’ve always thought the "coastal" coloration was more dominant in Calis. Live and learn I guess!!!

When we went to sell last years clutch at the show they actually changed before our eyes. When we left the house they were black and white. After waiting in line with for a little while, they all started yellowing. I’ve noticed this with my Banana male too. When he’s exposed to full spectrum lighting (sun) he seems to turn yellower.

That is a hatch to be proud of! Good show, Lampro. How many more eggs are there to go? I think what would be unique is if a snake with the parent’s markings but Arizona Mt. king colors could be produced. Is that possible?

I’ve got 3 clutches of California kingsnake eggs this year. Two from one female 7 weeks apart. First clutch was from my desert 50/50 and the others from the "reverse spotted".

My desert 50/50 laid 12 eggs, but only 5 hatched out. The "reverse spotted" eggs are going into hatching period just now, I’ve got 3 young so far from the first clutch, and by the looks of it, there’s gonna be 3 more from a total of 8 eggs.

The second clutch looks better, all 8 eggs are good so far. I’ve also got a late clutch kingsnake mix - reverse spotted Cali x speckled king. It’s gonna be very exciting to see the result of those eggs, all 12 looks fine. I’ve done this mix before, but with a desert Cali male. This "reverse spotted" has more white.

This is the first desert 50/50 hatckling after first shed.

This is the first one out from the clutch of 8 "reverse spotted" Cali eggs. This one is only a few hours old and therefore a bit dull in color. These young are extremely big, 12 inches long and very sturdy. The female lays very big eggs and I have kept them at low incubating temp so they hatched after 88 days.

Last time I tried the Cali x speckled mix I got the likes of this one. I hope that the mixed young will be more white this time since I’ve used a whiter male.

Nice babies, Peter54.
What is the lowest temperature you have used successfully? What is the highest used successfully? What ranges should be avoided, or in other words what is lethal, and how long of an exposure time does it take it for those temperatures to be lethal?

I guess most of my kingsnake eggs this year have been incubated in about 74-75F and I would not try lower temps than that. I got only 5 hatchlings from my first Cali king clutch of 12. This might be a result of to low temps, I’m not sure.

Back in 2006 I lost a lot of eggs when temps went up to 95F for several weeks making my incubator overheat. I have incubated eggs at about 88F successfully, but over that would be fatal I think.

Over short periods, like a day or so, I think tehe eggs would survive both lower and higher than the numbers here, but not for any longer periods of time. This is just my opinion, i really have nothing to back it up with.

I see that you are in Sweden. Is it normal to get such high summer temps that far North or do you think this is part of Global Warming, since it seemed to take you by surprise? The Greenland ice is melting and the North Pole ice is supposed to completely melt for the first time in human history. I have a friend in Poland who has complained about the unusually high temps there last year.

Yeah, temps can go higher than that in the summer even above the arctic circle, it’s not that unusual and has nothing to do with global warming (yet). What caused the problem was that the heat stayed for several weeks, wich is not very common.

Okay, I have looked at this snake numerous times and it seems to be right side up; i.e. laying on it’s belly with it’s back exposed, but I am not sure. What odd markings! It is my favorite one.
