 Shortage???

is it true that there is a shortage of mealworms in the midwest?


I have went to multiple places I get my mealies from and all sad there was a shortage

I feel kinda bad for those in the mid to eastern states... I keep hearing about the shortage but my petstores here are stocked full of them in California... And as I noticed, it’s hard for online buyers too since those farms are pretty much empty too... I wonder where Cali shops get their mealworms, we’re definitely not out of them here.

It turns out that the shortage is wold wide and it is because people buy them by the thousands to attract blue birds to there yards

This led to more and more demand for mealies,thus leading to a disease that led to the sterilization of all effected worms

they should be back in there numbers by september so I you get your hands o some breed them and you’ll probably never need to by meal worms again

any thing you buy from big scale breeders have a virus but some areas have a area breeder who only sell too store and probably didn’t breed them for blue bird because the don’t exist or are rarer in that area

it doesnt affect farms that arnt exposed to infected mealies as far as i understand it thats why non of the big breeders have them anywhere around me but my farm is doing great
